So it looks like I won't be going through the surgeon in Wollongong but will be sleeving with Dr Mosse too! I went for my surgical consultation with him last week and have my dietician appt at the end of next week but have been told I can book in my surgery date whenever I am ready...its becoming pretty real now!!

I am also in Canberra and went to the the info session at Canberra Bariatric on 24th October. I will be meeting with Dr Mosse on 8th December.

Has anyone here accessed their super to fund the surgery?

Chew ice...

It helps with the need to chew and it also helps with your hydration...

I'm from Canberra too! I'm getting a sleeve done with Dr Mosse on the 26th of June. Just going about my business at the moment drinking Optifast shakes, Water and eating lovely stir fried vegetables and salads.

A question though: I take a women's Multivitamin every day at the moment. I can't remember whether I needed to take an extra Calcium tablet now as well as post-op?

(I know it was a chewable brand I'm meant to grab, but just not sure when I'm meant to start).

Extra calcium will be post-op as you can't get enough through food then. (Probably a couple of weeks after.) You're already getting extra now through Optifast.

My time is NOW!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm interested in chatting with people in Canberra. I'm having gastric bypass surgery in Washington DC in February 2019, and I will be moving to Canberra on a long-term basis in September 2019. I would love to participate in a local support group (if one exists) and I would also like recommendations on a doctor for my follow-up appointments in Canberra.

Hi, Lesley! Nice to see someone else from Canberra! I did move there in 2019 and am seeing a GP to check blood levels. Everything is good, so I haven't needed to see a bariatric surgeon since I've been there.

I left Australia for work in April 2021, theoretically for three months. Now I'm one of the thousands of people stuck outside the country because there are no flights, and I have no idea when I will be able to return. I'm very sorry you all are locked down. It must be a particularly difficult time to have surgery there!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
