Any one from Texas?

Texas lady here (N.Houston/Woodlands).... hoping to have a March surgery date (self-pay). Nervous but ready to not have my gut in the weight or my thighs rubbing till they're raw (like at outdoor wedding this past weekend :( )

Anyone here planning to have kids (esp first) after WLS?

Kdawgsmom thank you so much! Some days I feel like I am a slow loser and others I feel like I am doing great! These dang stalls cause major head problems! Lol my surgery and recovery was so easy and smooth. I truly believe really following my preop diet helped a bunch. I didn't cheat at all and really stuck to it. Right after surgery, I was up walking every hour to help with gas. When I woke up in recovery, I remember screaming at my nurse about pain and nausea. He kept saying try and burp and I cussed him a new one. Lol oops! But by the time I was transported to my room, I was better. I stayed on top of taking pain meds while at the hospital and at home for 3 days. I never let the time lapse. I had surgery Wednesday and back to work that following Monday. I think the walking and staying on the meds helped a lot so I recommend doing that as much as possible. Really stick with the protocol for when you can eat what after surgery. I never cheated on that either. I'm excited for you! You are going to love it! I was super heavy before 388 so I am just now starting to get people to notice I am losing and it feels great! You got this!

TX firefly I understand completely about your rubbing raw. I hate that so much! I was also self pay. Boo for insurance not covering anything!

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for over 5 years now. We did infertile treatments for a while and had all the testing done. Only thing that might be hurting us was my weight. So it's the main reason I decided to have the surgery! We want children so badly! Is that a reason for you too?

I'm down 11.1 lbs so far on the preop diet. That excites me! lol I have a pretty high pain tolerance....so hopefully that will work on my side. How is the eating now? whats an example of your daily food?

Kdawgsmom - that's awesome that you are already down 11 pounds! Good for you! When is your surgery? I feel like really following your preop diet just helps you stick to your postop phases. I think the high pain tolerance will be helpful for you! It was so much easier than I expected!

Eating now is fine. I haven't found anything that makes me sick. Ground beef is a lot more heavier in my stomach than other Protein so I don't eat it much because I just don't like the way it feels. I definitely can not eat breads and carbs the way I use to. I tend to stay away from those anyways but when I have tried it just hits me like a ton of bricks. Pasta I don't even try for the same reason. And as far as what I eat....it's pretty basic and repetitive. I am a picky eater to begin with. So I generally still drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast because even almost 4 months out...I only eat like 3 or 4 ounces so there is no way I could get all my protein in. So I start with a shake. lunch is usually leftovers from the night before so for instance today I had some spaghetti sauce with a little ground beef and some mozzerlla cheese. We had lasagna last night and I just pick the cheese and meat off. It was about 3 ounces and I was good. snack around 3ish is usually a string cheese or a Protein Bar if I need more protein and then dinner is usually just the protein we are having and sometimes a veggie. So tonight we are having pork ribs and carrots. I usually only drink Water or crystal light. Sometimes I have coffee but I'm super sensitive to it. Always have been.

It's just crazy to wrap your head around. We ate out for everything and loved eating. Now it's just not that important. I can usually find something everywhere and order off the kids menu. It's just not as important anymore.

thanks! I'm pretty proud! :) I understand completely about going out to eat and loving food. We centered our lives on food. That's changing. Which Protein shakes do you like?

Hi Ginger!!!

Kdawg I drink the premier Protein shakes. I get a case for $24 at costco and they taste the best to me for 30g of Protein. I tried all kinds and tried the clear Protein drinks Isopur and I just could not take the taste. So I stick with what's easy for me to get down. I don't add anything to them or make special drinks or smoothies out of them. I just grab and go. Pretty easy!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
