Worst "compliment" you have gotten since surgery

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's like Krypton in Superman movies. Crap-ton, Krypton.....could be. Some people just were not born with "filters".

OMG - People say the dumbest things! I have to remind myself that they are trying to be nice, but the stupid things that come out, are almost a riot. I recognize its the fat girl in my head sometimes....but I've heard some real doozies. Generally from people that aren't close enough to me to be so personal with me. (disclaimer, I'm pretty private and anyone that knows me, knows this). thank God I haven't told anyone I had surgery, I can only image!

"You look so much better"......so I looked awful before

"Don't you feel so much better?".....to be honest, I didn't feel that bad before

"OMG how much have you lost?".....none of your damn business

"You look great, I can't wait to see how far you go".....quit while you're ahead, what if this is it? Clearly that person thinks I have more to lose.

I've had to practice just saying thank you to it all. I figure better for me to just be gracious regardless of how back handed the compliment feels. This is about me, not them anyway.

So glad I've done this for myself! Looking forward to long healthy life!

When people don't quite recognize you. And they say you look familiar my friend likes to say, " oh I don't know. Do you watch porn?" ????????????????????

10 months out and first can't believe you said that moment. Went to a baby shower and first time I saw people since surgery. I was expecting reactions but, my Aunt looked at me and said" do you wear contacts? "Yes I do" are they colored? No.. Wow your eyes are really blue.. I guess having weight on you hides all your good features" ??? How to react??? My daughters and mom was sitting there speechless...then after that comment she wanted to chit chat about by experience mentally...needless to say I finished the conversation politely and then had my own WTF look...

People can be so rude!!!

"dinner party with my husband and friends. person at the table looks at my husband and say's You must be having sex all the time.

people can and are unbelievable - shall we say class/or lack of

similarity below???

hubby and i were visiting my mom (my worst critic) yesterday

one minute hubby (tom) bent over and gave me a couple of sweet kisses

no special reason

oh, yes, maybe its cuz he loves me :o :)

talked to my mom last night and she said she was "so happy that she saw tom "sneak" a kiss !!" she said "he's doing this now that you have lost weight!!!"?????

WHAT OMG!!!!

at least she didn't say "you are probably getting it more too!!) :D

"what are you talking about", i said!!!! :o

not much of a comeback, but it was something

she just kept coming with more of her similar remarks about differences from when i was "FAT" to where i am now at goal!!!

just the way she says/jabs things

oh dear, i'm rambling/venting

@imadethelist- Yep! I've heard all of these..

I'm just generally happy if someone says, "hey, you look great," and leaves it at that. It's not as if I didn't know I was big before and that I was happy being that size, so I really don't wany ANY comments that bring me back to that unhappy time in my life. I'd rather they say nothing at all and keep on walking! It's one thing if it's family or someone I'm close to because those comments are intended differently and are followed up with "you've done a great job!" or in my mom's case, "I'm so proud of you," which she'd tell me at any size! :)

On the other hand, the worst thing said to me as an adult was when I wasn't even at my heaviest and some drunk a-hole referred to me as a "cow" and I looked at him at said, "I can lose weight, but you'll ALWAYS be an ass!" :o (This is the look on his face after.) lol

LOVE IT! LipstickLady you crack me up!!!

we should start a tread "best come back lines"

A couple of my favorites:

" What an unkind thing to say. What ever made you say that ?"

And for those way too personal questions:

" What an extremely personal question. Why ever would you ask that? "

Then, of course I smile sweetly awaiting their reply. Usually it's a lot of back peddling.

My insurance has a wellness component to it. I enrolled because it will cover my gym membership. Every so often the do things like have have a mobile mammography event and send alerts to it's members. So they had this thing where they would send nurse's out to do wellness check ups. I'm getting stuff done in the house so the alternative was to go to the local pharmacy's minute clinic. So Friday I go and this stupid nurse keep remarking about how she's surprised I don't have diabetes and am I sure. It was like she was wishing I had co-morbs or an illness other than my allergies. She kept asking about medications and sleep apnea. Once again she keeps says how she's surprised I don't have diabetes I looked her dead in the eye and said;

"No I don't, you gotta problem with that!"

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
