Can plastic surgery accelerate weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Ever since my breast reduction surgery at the beginning of this month, my weight loss rate has been amped up. Before this, I was losing about a pound a week. But now it's more than two pounds per week. I actually weighed 10 lbs less on 12/22 than I did on 12/1. I'm not changing my ticker to 129 unless that weight is repeated on Friday's (day after Christmas treats) weigh-in, but the fact that I touched 129 in such a short time is amazing me. I know that some of the loss is the weight of the tissue removed during surgery, but that only accounts for a couple of pounds.

Has anyone else experienced a whoosh after plastics?

Some people get a burner effect post plastics but it's temporary. I had massive plastic done at once and my appetite was sky high. Some people get the burn without the hunger, I wasnt so lucky. :)

Remember to get good Protein in though...essential for healing.

I've not been so fortunate. I had about 12 pounds of skin and fat removed and I'm up about 8 pounds. I'm swollen and hungry. Good for you, though! I keep hoping the swelling will subscribe and I'll drop 20, but not counting on it....

I had the drop too! I don't want to lose any more because I am 110 now. I don't want to go below 110 so I am playing with my calories on my fitness pal to fine my maintain zone. My Dr took 6.8 lbs of skin so I've lost that plus 7 more lbs since my 11/19 circumferential body lift. Loving being an extra small and hearing how tiny I am but wow, men are a bit predatory with a cute body. Wasn't prepared for that and am happily married to the love of my life. I guess my pretty face" finally has a pretty ass, legs and stomach to match. Lol!! :)

The attention is bizarre sometimes...

I lost another 10 pounds or so after my Tummy Tuck. Both my doctor and I were happy with my pre tummy tuck weight, but I have to say, I'm loving the weight in which my body has settled.

I'm glad that I am one of the lucky ones with the extra burn. I wonder how long the effect will last? I still want to lose about 5 more pounds before my Tummy Tuck next year.

I lost quite a bit the 6 weeks after my first plastics surgery, although I tend to think a good portion of it was from muscle loss since I went from working out a few hours a day to not at all and the fact that the compression garment made me barf up everything I ate. I started plastics at 153 and I went into my second plastics surgery 3 months later at 137. Unfortunatey, I did not lose again after the second procedure. I dropped to 133 over the last month and now I float between there and 135. I've also been on vacation and while being cognizant of my weight (I have a scale with me) I've also eaten what I wanted to, so hopefully when I'm back on my regular diet January 1, I will lose again.

I didn't mind the weight loss at all- wish it had worked the second time!

I was very nervous before my abdominalplasty, much more so than with my sleeve, but I am thrilled with the results. Recovery was pain free. The only negative was the drain tubes. They didn't hurt but I hated dealing with them.

There is scientific evidence of increased weight loss after plastic surgery according to the ASPS. I don't recall the specifics but it had to do with hormonal changes after removing fat, that increased satiety and improved metabolism.

I am more than one year out from my plastics and I have maintained the weight that I lost, which was considerable. It was due to a combination of what Dr. Capella removed, decreased appetite from the muscle plication. improved diet and exercise.

That actually makes sense to me. Fat stores estrogen so getting rid of it evens out hormones. I can say my burn rate is up and I'm not even working out righr now. I need to maintain so I am slowly upping my calories to get to that zone.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
