Low energy post-op

Recommended Posts

I'm 18 days post op Roux-En-Y gastric bypass. I am feeling really great with the exception of low energy. I am working hard to get all of my calories and Protein requirements in daily and wake up with a lot of energy but as the day goes on, I get really tired really quickly and feel like I need to rest. I would like to get more walking in but taking a shower wears me out! At this point I feel like I had more energy when I weighed 60 pounds more than I weigh today (that includes presurgery weight loss). Am I expecting too much too soon? I realize rest is important in recovery as well but I feel like I'm doing a lot of resting.... Any thoughts?

I'll be 14 days post-op come Monday and I too have little energy. Primarily it's in the morning until I have my Vitamins and take a shower. Keep in mind that we're not taking in as many carbs as before and carbs is where we get most of our energy from. It was encouraging (to me) to read that it took a month and a half to feel somewhat normal. I was thinking something was wrong with me because all of this is so new. Hang in there!

I had very low energy for the first month. After that I have improved a great deal. At almost 7 weeks I feel better then before surgery by a mile. Hang in there this is normal. Your body has to heal and let's face it surgery is no walk on the park.

I suffered from low energy also. Then, around month 3 I started to feel better. I attribute it to being to eat a bigger variety at that stage and my body getting used to the changes from the surgery. Also, remember that this is still a pretty significant surgery and your body is healing. In time you will feel better.

That's what I was thinking. I can be a little more patient! :)

It could be a change in blood pressure, not taking all Vitamins every single day, not drinking enough or not getting enough Protein. I have the same issues with low energy and even occasional being light headed. I know that I am not drinking enough fluids and forget to take vitamins. Speak to your doctor and get blood tests to make sure you are not deficient or dehydrated. Best of luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
