A bit too much and serious pain.

Recommended Posts

Post op day 12 and last night I "ate" a bit too much. Oh the freaking pain. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. Today I am so scared to eat anything. I'll be sipping today. I never want to feel like that ever again.

That is one of the steps. You eat a little too much and your body sends you instant pain. Then you begin to automatically recognize the volume of food that is the acceptable amount. And you rarely if ever go beyond that amount again. My body tells me I am close by sneezing, generation of mucous generally dripping from my nose, hiccups, and by the taste of food. Whenever I exceed the volume, food that was tasting good, now taste terrible. If you go beyond that stage you run into dumping syndrome and dry heaves. Its a learning process.

For me I get a big sigh right before I hit the wall and I know to stop. I have had the chest pain, I have not experienced dumping and I hope I never do. I listen to the sigh.

Whoa. That was not fun. It worked because I ate right today.

Gosh I think most of us have experienced that horrible chest pain of over eating. Most of us are very aware of how we are eating from that point on. Well except me and I am a slow learner had to be miserable a couple times before I made the connection lol

What I've found (by trial and error) that works for me is to literally put my fork down after a single bite and wait. I can tell by a bite if what I just ate will sit well with me. (I'm nearly 6 weeks out) If nothing happens, in goes bite two. If not, I get that sharp knife-like pain right at the base of my breastbone. Scared the daylights out of me the first time it happened, but fortunately, it goes away relatively quickly, as does the plate of food. :)

I am at 5 weeks and this week has been horrible with exactly that problem. I can't tell when I'm full until the chest pain comes. I have lost my Cookies several times. I guess I too am a slow learner. I can eat about a 1/4 cup but with some foods it's even less. It's like a moving target. Some times I only eat two bites but then I know it's not enough. I ate some yogurt this morning and for the first time I thew up with the yogurt. I only ate 1/2 of the container but apparently that was too much. It wasn't yesterday as I ate 2/3 of the container. I don't get it. My pouch is becoming smaller and smaller. Hey just like me!

The only problem is I have developed an aversion to food. I don't want to eat at all because I fear the pain and vomiting. I only eat because I have to. Now I get why some WLS patients only eat slider foods and graze with small bites all day. Eating is soooooo hard.

Exactly! I've reverted back to liquids and cheese.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
