Day 12 post gastric sleeve down 17 pounds Feeling great. My surgery was Dec. 19th at Troy Beaumont Hospital, surgeon Dr. Kerry Kole DO. My daughter helped me do my walking in the evening with IV pole and her arm. I ended up using the bathroom every 2-3 hours then went lap walking in the hallways throughout the night. Not much sleep but prepared me for discharge the following afternoon. Only used the liquid Loratab for one day, then on regular strength Tylenol. Most days had 2-3 hour nap and a couple really slept on and off all day. By Christmas Day feeling much better and no pain by the 26th. This week started to walk two miles again, joints are not achy at all. Really helped pre op walking 1-2 miles a day to use my quads more than my arms to push up to stand from sitting. All but 1 incision is healed. I may have an allergy to the glue and advised to use peroxide twice a day with a Q-tip. Cotton ball in belly button to keep it dry. I will be graduating to puree Friday....yay! Eating has been a learning experience. No gulping of Water or one has severe pain. One sip wait 15 seconds for burping and gurgling to subside. Same with Soups, Jello, milk anything that goes in your mouth. pills initially quite painful. I usually hit Protein levels of 70 grams a day. No issues with hair loss. Fasting blood sugars much better 128 versus 182 pre op.

I go to Beaumont's weight loss center in Rochester for follow up care shelling out $200 for the year. Includes dietitian, nurse, doctor, weekly support groups which I went prior to surgery. They do labs and first follow up visit I received a B-1 and B12 shot to boost my lab numbers and give me energy. Next visits are 6 week, 3 month, 4-1/2 month, 6, 9 & 1 year. Exercise physiology follow up at 6 wk visit and psychology at 3 months, rest same as first visit. Feeling down, so for a walk. If too cold, use treadmill go to a store, walk the mall. I like my Solo Fitness center, Music, people watching and a great indoor track. Once my incisions are all healed I can go back in the 92 degree pool or walk laps in the 82 degree pool. I wish everyone a Happy New Year with healthier you!

My date was Dec. 15th! Time is going by so fast. I get to start soft foods today. Down 28 lbs. so far!!! I know a lot of people don't check in here much anymore, it's a little hard to navigate. A Facebook group was formed called BariBuddies. It's a closed group and it's easier to access. There is also another fb group that is very active called December Sleevers. BariBuddies has a pic of a girl with arms outstretched and Dec. sleevers has cute little stuffed stomachs. Both have been great for me to have a place to chat with others about ANYTHING! So join in if you like, lots of info there.

Have a great day!

Good to hear AJP and Benji. I had my surgery on the 15th and the staples came out a week later. I think it must have really hurt to have them in for so long! Ouchy! I am doing well too. Down 29 pounds and have to go back to work on Monday. :(

Sounds like everyone is on the way!

It has gone by fast. I biggest worry was my skin got tender to the touch on my left side. I didn't know why and I hurt inside as well. I figured it out. I'm a dummy I had a couple of bites of cheese and I hadn't gone to the restroom in a couple of days. I guess I was backed up. Dang I won't be doing that for awhile. Doctor said cheeses is ok. But man that feeling was awful. It will be awhile before I eat cheese again. I'm feeling a lot better today.

Glad your feeling better carol. Yes testing times on what our stomachs can handle. My nutritionist always say keep chewing and eat slowly. Yet I have not mastered this kill very well.

@@carolvalen I've learned sometimes the first time I try something, it may not sit well, but if I try it again it may be okay. It's like reintroducing yourself to foods, almost like a baby. Your reaction will vary.

Thanks. I sure hope so. Most of the foods I like are not good ones so that's OK with me if I never eat them again. Everything taste salty right now and not good. Hahahaha

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
