Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Add me to the list!!

I am scheduled for July 3rd also. I will be banded in Brunswick, Georgia by Dr. Harold Kent.

Honestly, I am a huge mix of emotions. Scared, excited, dumbfounded... I really have a hard time with believing that anything will work for me at this point. I HAVE to change this negative attitude of mine regarding this issue. I really look forward to walking this journey with you all!!

Welcome mrshorne!

I know what you mean about believing that anything will work at this point. I kind of feel the same way. But I keep reading on here all the success stories and that helps!

All the best to you.

Good Morning to all,

We have a great group going here. Time is flying by, and my surgery is already 3 weeks away (from tomorrow) OMG!!!!!!! I still just wish it was tomorrow and then all this anxiety will be gone, but it will be nice to still enjoy some favorite foods before hand.

Heading to Kings Island (amusement/water park) with my family today. I think we'll be at the waterpark most of the day since it's going to be hot here. My 3 year old is a fish, he just loves the Water. Usually I can't get him out of it unless he is kicking and screaming.

Hope eveyone has a great day and I'll check in later. We need to get this thread back on the first page. We'll hopefully have a new member join us who visited the old July Bandsters thread. Her name is Corinna.

yesterday i met up with a group of ladies who have had the band on and one ladies who is getting banded the same day as me in the same hospital (how cool is that). they were amazing. 1 thing they kept saying was its not a magic wand and thats totally true and they showed me there scars. not too bad at all!!! it was great hearing 'face to face' stories and also what to bring to the hospital. they left me on one note..WALK WALK WALK. as much as you can ever if its only for 1 minute at a time. so i shall be walking walking walking!!!

hop everyone is well xxxxx

one other bit of advice they gave was to buy this book!

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

Ahroni Ph.D. A. R. N. P. Jessie H.:

you can buy it on Amazon or play.com.. it was better to buy the book before the op than after it. but all of them said it was great.

and personally if someone from ireland likes it well id say some one from the states will like it more

(just because of the style of writing as its an american author)

anyways hope it helps you guys

Hi my names Brandy and I am having my pre op physical on June 22nd and will have my surgery sometime 30 days after that, so it will be in June! I love this forum and this seem like such a great group! I haven't even had a surgery date yet and I am so nervous. I just really hope this works, I know I am going to work hard for it.

Welcome Tanzy and Brandy,

We're growing again. Where is Chimboree with our updated list???

I need to find out how the Junies got there's on a calendar. I may pop in there later and find out.

Dini, thanks for the book information. I wonder how much it is, or if youcan find it in book stores, like Borders? I'll have to check it out.

Well, I'm back from the waterpark, and I'm very sun burnt:embarassed:. Yes, I had spf 30 on, and reapplied 45 but then I think I realized my 45 was EXPIRED:angry. I didn't know that sun block expired. I just bought it last year, but it wasn't working one bit. I look pretty much like a lobster. At least my son has his fathers skin tone, he just seems to tan a little, but I'm fair.

Going to check on a few things, so have a great evening all. I'm pretty tired from all the walking:bored, but at least I know where to get all my excercise in after surgery.

Lynette:)

Thanks Dini,

I went to Boders.com and they have the book in soft back for $13.95 or hard back for $24.95. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow after my WLS class.

I also sent a message to the lady in the June thread asking for directions for the calendar so we can put one up for July. We'll add you on for June 26!!!!!:)OMG, it's coming up quickly.

So what have you already purchased to get ready so far? Each weekend I buy a few more things, except this weekend I've been real busy. I only have a few things left.

Lynette

Just my two cents here...

I just purchased the books listed below from Amazon.com as the Borders and Barnes & Noble near me carrried none of them.

Let me preface what I am going to say with I am a reader and when I want to learn about something I will research it to death :) I did so much research online along with the tons I have learned on this website that I must say I was disappointed with the first two books. I didn't really learn much. I spent a total of $58 on the four books. When I placed the order I figured money well spent. If I am going to have this surgery I want to make sure I know as much as possible.

Now if you want all your info in one place as a resource then I would recommmend buying one of them. Probably the one by Jessie H. Ahroni.

Once I get a chance to really look at the other two books with recipes I will post.

I hope this very long winded message helps someone out. :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
