Lauren, YESSSSSS!!!! Good for you! How's band life going for you?
Well, I'm REALLY looking forward to my first fill. Right now, I can eat way too much. I have absolutely no restriction at all right now.

I hear ya! I'm starting to feel like that now. I can certainly drink a lot at one time w/o the pressure in my chest like before. I've been drinking more and more at one time. Sipping has gone by the wayside. Also, I haven't felt any discomfort from my mushies, either.

I still have a ways to go before I can think about getting a fill.

EXACTLY!!! The past couple of days, I have actually done pretty well. I've been making it to the 3 hour mark, but usually at 2 hrs, my stomach is growling, audibly.

I know. That's what I've been telling myself. I have to start being mindful about my drinking/sipping. :nervous

Hi Everyone,

Had a great day with the family. My girlfriend came to drop off her son, and she stayed the night. She was banded 7 years ago and has lost all of her weight. She is such an inspiration to me. It's great to hear her story and to know I will have the same success.

My niece came in to babysit my daughter tonight, so that we could all go to see a movie. We took our son and my friend's son to see "Transformers". Although it's aimed at boys and men, I have to admit, it was a very entertaining movie. Really great effects and not bad acting. It was a fun evening out.

We also went out for dinner to Jack Astors (Canadian restaurant I think). I was able to get their "Beer & Cheddar" Soup, which was pureed. It was excellent. Again... I was a cheep date (as we all are)!!!!

Hope everyone's well. I tried to catch up on the notes, but I'm sure I missed some. Sounds like our first bandsters are now getting their first fills. Hope all are going well and you are feeling some healthy restriction.

I'm 11 days post op now and feeling pretty good. I don't seem to have much restriction (at least not for the liquids). I'm going to start mushies in 2 days, so will see if there is any difference then.

Take care.

Hi all. Just jumped on really quick to catch up on the posts and give you all an update. I had my 2 week post op today. I was astonished!!!! According to the doctors scale I have lost 13.9 lbs since last Monday. WOOHOOOOOOOOOO I was so excited!! She told me the weight loss may slow down now because I am officially moved to the mushies as of today. I tried my first meal tonight and it just didn;t have the umph it used to have for me. Ate a couple of bites and I was done. Guess that is good though huh?

Found out my first fill isn't for another 4 weeks. I was hoping it was at 4 weeks post op but it is 6 weeks post op. Anyway, just wanted to let you all know how things went. I go back to work tomorrow. Kinda said my vacation is over but it is time to get back to life. LOL

Sounds like everyone else is doing well also. Congratulations everyone on the weight loss. Aren't we just a big bunch of losers!?!?!?!?!?!

Chimoree- You absolutly should have posted about your walk. I in no way felt obligated to sponsor you, I was excited and happy for you! I really wish you the best and you are walking for such a wonderful cause. You are walking for us!! This is something that has effected all of us, and Im sure that we are all greatful for your participation.

Did anyone see 'Big Medicine" last night. There was a woman who was banded and her Dr. Stated that people who are banded lose on an average 3-5 lbs per MONTH. It is a much slower weight loss than GB (this we all knew, but I was thinking more that 3-5 per month)!!!

Good morning all! Seems everyone is in snoozeland or working, lol! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!!!!! Check back later!

Laurend, when are you due for a fill? I still have about 2 1/2 weeks!! I am able to eat way more than I need. Try to watch, and follow the rules, but I do get hungry right now and that sure doesn't help!!!!

In the research that I've done, the weight loss is more like 1 to 2 lbs per week. Of course, this weight loss is always paired with excercise and the appropriate food choices. That's the 1st time I've heard of such low numbers per month.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
