Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

And another thing! Remember that I didn't tell anyone at work that I had the surgery, which I still think was the right decision. I've been getting a lot of compliments at work and of course, everyone wants to know how you are doing it and I imagine if they knew I had surgery, they would just dismiss the amount of effort that's actually been involved and think that it was easy. And we all know that this hasn't been easy. I do think it's a sure thing and that you'd have to go a long way to mess it up, but it certainly hasn't been easy. It's that sureness that keeps me motivated, when the weight loss stalls a bit! But, I know that I have worked hard for every pound of my weight loss and continue to make good eating decisions going forward because of it!

Brandy, Good for you! I wish I hadn't told some of the people I told! I told my DH that I am already tired of being the Poster Child for LapBand! Every where I go and every one I see, asks how I am doing, how much I eat, and then right to the how much have you lost line! It is nice to have them notice that I lost, but then drop it and move on! I do have a life outside of the diet and the lapband! I don't know, I guess they mean well, but I don't want to discuss it all night long and in front of everybody! At least, not every time! Once in awhile I would just like to be me! Talk about the weather, or the kids, or whatever, but not my weight!!!! Maybe I am just too sensitive, but it bugs me!!!!! Much more so when it comes from a "thin" person! The other day, one of my relatives asked my DH, if he wishes he would have MADE me get it earlier! I was livid! Didn't show it, but found a reason to leave the situation and go somewhere else! See, maybe just too sensitive! He did ignore the question, but still!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those are the kinds of things that push me over the edge and intensifies my eating ... shouldn't but certainly does!

DMTJET, Jackie is right. Weight Watchers ice cream and treats are good and full of Fiber. The fudgesicle is one point and has 5 grams of fiber in it.

I too was afraid of solids etc. Friday was the first day I could eat red meat, salad, bread. Last night my DH and I went out to eat. I ate bread, filet mignon, vegetables and salad without any problem. I was glad. I am guessing as the fills get tighter this may not be the case. Have to wait and see. I know I am ready for my next one. I was told by people who had the band that the first one does not last very long. I know when I had it I had restriction for about 4 days then I felt as I had before. After I get my fill, I am on liquids for three days, mushies for a day and on day 5-10 I can eat anything except red meat, bread, rice, salad, and fibrous vegetables.

Congrats to Jackie, Jeannie, CeCe and everyone else on your great weight losses. I am plugging along. Exercising but not movement on scale. It will come. I just finished 10 days of medicine that I think were contributing to this nonmovement.

Thanks for the well wishes! I will certainly try the fudgesicles. Sound delicious and I love ice cream! Craving usually stops once the colder weather moves in, which yesterday only hit 52 degrees, so won't be long, lol!

Sounds like you are doing very well! Keep up the good work!

Gonna run and get some work done around here! Hope everyone has a terrific day!

Wow! The new weight loss numbers coming in are amazing - congrats!!!! My first fill wasn't so great, couldn't drink the Water in the office, so he took some out. I need to go back in because I am not having the restriction you'll are having. I haven't lost more that a pound in three weeks, even thought I am hungry often. I think when I eat, it's too much and I started to let a bit of "snacking" on the wrong stuff creep back in - of course that's not going to work!!!

Thanks for the encouraging numbers! They will help me get back on track! CC

Does your doctor allow you to have Snacks? My doctor says three meals a day no snacking. Just curious what others doctors have said.

My dr. also said 3 meals no snack. It's quite hard not to snack, sometimes one just wants to munch on something, you know? I have another fill in 2 weeks and I am glad, as I am getting hungrier and hungrier by the day. I am not eating more because I really want to lose so I am controlling myself, but boy it's hard. I keep telling myself ' hang in there you can do it!" Also coming here really helps with my motivation.

Like I was telling my sister yesterday, I know I feel a difference in me because I am eating a lot less than I would before the band but I don't know if I have that satisfied feeling. As I think back on how I used to eat, I probably thought that "satisfied" meant, I'm in a little pain after this meal and I finished all the food in the container or on the plate so I'd better quit eating. Now I'm just learning what satisfied means. For me right now it means, I know I could eat more but I really don't feel like it. If my fill hasn't kicked in by the end of next week then I'm going to schedule another 1. The Dr. said 2 weeks is when most people feel the effects of it. I don't think there is anyway I would be full on a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food right now. Indio, did your doctor say that you should feel full on a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of mushy or solid food?

Just now, I ate 1/2 cup of creamed spinach and 1/2 of small chicken meatballs. I think I might be satisfied because I know I could eat more but I'm not hungry. I'm not full because I don't feel like I'm busting. I'm too scared to push myself to having that feeling because I don't want to stretch my pouch or have band erosion. Is 1 cup of food too much food for 1 meal guys? Does it matter whether its mushy or solid food? Thanks in advance for the input everyone.

Hi,

Wasn't it Lynette that was keeping running stats of our numbers? I, for one, haven't remembered to send her mine in a LONG time. We were supposed to email her every Friday! Maybe it was Laurend!? Who remembers??? Laurend, Lynette, are you out there today??? Remind us who we're supposed to email that info. I think it was Laurend. And she's very busy now with school now. But it would be interesting now that we're pretty much two months out from surgery, to see the actual numbers as to how we're all progressing.

I tell you what... if one of MY friends/relatives that made that comment, "Don't you wish you would've MADE her do this sooner???" I would NOT have kept my mouth shut!! Talk about LIVID!! That person would've gotten an earful I'm afraid! That was downright RUDE!!

I have to confess I ate FAIR food yesterday! I had a scone! And part of a Funnel Cake... not too much. And my DH, again exerting his control, persuaded the Young Life people to give me BBQ beef without a bun and then let me have Beans AND coleslaw instead of one or the other since I wasn't having the bun or the drink that was included with their "Meal Deal"! Then he watched me eat some of it and when I knew it was time to quit, he had what was left for his dinner! I think I ate about 1/2 of each and probably a cup or 1 1/2 cup of food! More than I've had since the fill! But didn't feel uncomfortably full. I think when we are in social situations, it's easier to ignore signals our band is sending us that we've had enough. Because this morning, a couple of bites of Breakfast and I was feeling full already. Yesterday it seemed like I could eat and eat and not feel full! What's that about??

I'm guessing snacking isn't allowed. I go to my fill center rather than Doctor for my next fill. He said they will give me more diet guidance and info than I get from his office.

I think my real problem it that I am a sneaky rebel about little things. Give me diet rules and I will change one or two. Tell me to wear tennis shoes, I'll wear flip flops....I follow big rules - don't run red lights, don't lie, don't gossip... but always give my self wiggle room on little things that don't effect anyone but me. Must come from childhood and I really need to ditch the habit. I inwardly cringe and anything "bossing" me around - like a diet. Why would that be a big deal??? The rules are there because they work-I am only hurting myself. CC

ssanskoffa- I scheduled my next fill appt when I left the office after my first fill. Melanie told me to make the appt for 6 weeks from the first fill (she said they only do them 6 weeks apart)- Did that Dr tell you to?......I really think that I am going to call ahead of time to request Melanie or Deidra- I do not want to ge the Dr. that you got.

Jeanine

I am right there with you - you are not being overly sensitive... I only told 2 people in my office - and omg everyone knows - even some company people (who I may have told anyway - but it was mine to tell not theirs) and i even have a gf who wants to be banded calling me weekly - it's just a lot of added pressure and we don't need people looking at how much we eat etc - This was a health decision not a keep up with the jones thing - I have on gf who is afraid i will be thinner than her.. She is now going to some thing that make you lose weight (like doing 300 sit ups) with out any exercise - some asyrssa (sp) system...

I would have spoken up at the MADE comment -

My doc - 3 meals - & healthy snacks... ie low fat string cheese, yogurt, veggies etc - all the stuff we know - but don't always do

I really don't think that saving your snack from the morning to eat at night is going to hurt - cuz you know if you eat it in the morning and then at night when you are starving you are going to eat something extra anyway cuz you are so hungry - that's an extra 100 calorie - that's 700 a week - where as if you saving your morning snack for night time you aren't adding calories.. I agree it's a childhood thing as I was telling someone earlier my Mom use to try and control my eating - but that just made me sneaky.. I do have to change things to work for me - I know my weaknesses.. </p>

Hey all,

Phyl, it was Laurend that was keeping all the stats. I'm no good with numbers, LOL!!

Marcy, so you got some BLING for your anniversary!! Whoo-hoo, you go girl. My 5 year is coming up in 2 weeks, but bon't expect any of that. We'll be in Florida on vacation for our anniversary, and that's enough of a present for me.

So I did get some bad news, but figured it was coming sooner than later, but the hospital will not be refunding my $9600. They tipped off the insurnace of their mistake, and the insurance co. will be getting their $1600 refund for paying by mistake. Sucks, but oh well. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, even for the self pay. It's been worth it.

CeCe - Fantastic!! I can't wait till my clothes fall off.

Congrats to all the big losers. Things are going very slow for me.

The fill lady said I could come in again in 2wks, but she would only put half of what she'd put at 4wks so it's really a wasted trip.

My doctor rules after fill was 1 and 1/2 days on liquids then back to normal. 3 meals a day no Snacks. I feel like I have no restriction because I can eat anything including steak and bread but the band is making some difference because I am definitely eating a lot less than I used to.

We went to a steak place and I had one roll, a few bites of salad, a few bites of the potato and a few bites of the steak.

Pre band I would have had: 2 to 3 rolls, most of the salad, most of the steak, and some potato.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
