11 "Normal" food days left before 3 Week Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

It's 3 1/2 months since my surgery and I had the same dilemma - it really troubled me a lot deciding what to do in the final weeks. I received so much conflicting advice.

Well, I chose to eat whatever I wanted. While I did, I really focused on and understood the depth of my addiction and insanity of it all. The endless obsession and drive to find and eat food, food and more food. I know it's impossible to believe, but while doing it, I kept very aware that I was going into surgery soon and that I wanted to change my life forever. I knew, as I ate and overate each bite, that I would do whatever it took to make the surgery succeed. The last few weeks before the surgery were truly a horror show of what my life was and looked like, it was clear as day that I had no life, just food, food and feeling stuffed and sick and miserable.

That's what worked for me. I am as committed as possible to this new life of mine. It's not easy, but I could not be more ready to continue to change my life completely. What I had before was not living. I am down 51 pounds in 16 weeks.

What a great testimony , we as a whole sometimes are own worse

enemies , but we do figure it out eventually . This time is kind of like a rebirth for me, a chance to start all over again, I blame no one for my weight but me. I can honestly say that. I believe I have always been a good wife a great mother and a good friend , I just wasn't to good to myself. Sure the cake , ice cream etc tasted good , but the satisfaction was always short lived, anyone that thinks food is not an addiction does not no addiction .With that being said :I think every person that has made it to adulthood has experienced some sort of addiction whether it's smoking, drugs , shopping, drinking and of course food it's still harmful to our lives. We are human! There is a cure and we all have it , it's called self preservation, I intend to end my addiction to food , be healthy , happy and grateful for this second chance. I realize it's going to be hard and that the sleeve is a tool , but with this tool , I can do this . Forgive me for the rant, i really am a positive lady. , and hope to only be a positive support to everyone that is on this journey , good luck with your pre op and post op surgery, and for sharing your experiences thus far. I thank you all.

@@Blazzrr Thank you so much for your honesty. During the last few weeks leading up to my Pre Op Diet I also decided that I was going to allow myself to have whatever I wanted to eat. The nutritionists and nurses at my surgeons office were constantly harassing me. food has been my best friend and closest confidante for my whole life, I needed to say goodbye and I couldn't have that rushed. I made the decision to have surgery and give up excess food as my primary coping skill and was completely willing to do that, when it was absolutely necessary but not before. I am still pre op so I cannot say whether my strategy worked or not but reading your post gave me hope that my instincts are correct.

Ok folks - I found out my surgery date in Thursday. I'm thrilled, Dec. 17th come on.

However it is Saturday an I realize I have 11 days till pre op liquid (2) meals with Protein dinner for 3 weeks which starts on Thanksgiving. Which I thankful to have a date.

Here's my dilemma .... I find myself feeling guilty for eating and thinking of what I want to have prior vs starting now.

Keep in mind my surgeon has specifically told me NOT TO DIET until pre op time.

Am I overthinking or going insane?

Please discuss .... Talk amongst yourselves .....

Those of you who get the reference will know how old I am.

Yes you're overthinking. :) There are so many things to think about, don't let this take up room in your head! My advice: take your doctor's advice! Don't diet until you have to. Eat what you want, because very soon everything about eating will change forever. I couldn't eat bread/pasta/rice/tortillas/crackers, etc. for six months. And now that I'm more than six months out, I still rarely eat that stuff, it takes up too much room in my tiny tummy. You know what I miss? A big sub sandwich, or a melty grilled cheese! LOL You know what I don't miss? I don't miss having to shop at a "big women's" store, or not being able to wrap a towel around my body, or getting out of breath climbing up stairs, or walking into a store feeling like everyone is staring at "the fat woman."

Good luck with your surgery, see you on the other side!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
