Surgery Scheduled 11/17/14...Any last minute tips?

Recommended Posts

After Surgery when you in the hospital, get up and start walking as soon as you are able and as often as you can. Bring some chapstick, slippers. Best of luck!

I never leave home without chapstick because I am an addict, but I added the slippers to my list. Thanks.

I agree with everyone here. I just got home from my surgery and having had my best friend do all my liquids shopping (broths, shakes, yogurt, crystal light, Popsicles etc) for me has been a big assist. I will definitely look into the gas strips because I've been up for the past two hours because of the shoulder pain. Be prepared for the gas pain. It's the worst of it. But it's already getting better. But boy it's a doozy. I'm very excited for the rest of my recovery and staying hydrated and walking asap after surgery is a big plus ????

I am on Monday as well - glad to know I can have the no sugar added Hot chocolate.

I guess I maybe be a bit weird, but I am not nervous at all. I am ready to start this journey.

The only thing bothering me is that I can't figure out how to change my ticker! ha

REady to see everyone on the other side of surgery next week.

This is my first post on BariatricPal. I'm having surgery Monday 11/17. I go in at 6 a.m. Good luck to you. I downloaded the app to my phone, so I'll check in and read more while I'm waiting.

Idk about you guys but I haven't been able to sleep the whole night. The surgery is schedule for 1030am today. I'm suppose to be up at 7am. But then again, I have not slept at all. I'm nervous/excited/super scared is also a feeling. I can't wait for it to be over and I wake up and say, here we go!

Same here. The horrific snow storm isn't helping things. I already live an hour and 20 minutes from the hospital, and they're saying the roads are awful. I guess it's good that I'm not scheduled till 11:30 and it's mostly highway. Good luck today. See you on the flip side :)

I hope everyone's surgery went well. Mine was today 11/17 too. I was in lots of pain and had lots of nausea even with all the prevention, but this always happens to me with anesthesia.

I am finally coming off the anesthesia and feeling a little normal now. I already walked a bit and will do some more walking. Surprisingly I wasn't nervous. I was so happy and couldn't wait to do it. I hope everyone has a speedy recovery and let's support each other.

Today is a major life changing event and a journey that I am so happy on embarking on.

I hope everyone had a smooth surgery.. The first couple days can be rough.. But you'll get through it. Walk, walk, walk.. Don't stress about Protein immediately you likely aren't going to be able to get much in. Be sure to focus on Water though.. You must stay hydrated! If you struggle with nausea just remember that much of it is mental and ask you doctor for an anti nausea medication.. I ring know what I would have done without it! And just remember the first month is the toughest but there IS light at the end of that tunnel!

The nausea is bad, but I'm alive and it's only temporary so I'm ok. Can't wait to be past this and start feeling better though.

Hi ladies! My surgery was today around 12pm and the is 12am and I still haven't walk. The anesthesia has me HIIIIGHHH and absolutely sleepy. I get a bit dizzy when sitting up n nauseous. I'm not really a pain complainer. Pain has been manageable. There's gases but I'm lactose intolerant so I'm used to that kind of pain and at this point doesn't bother me much. Been sucking on those swabs. But besides, sleepy high:..I feel good. post-234354-14162898700863_thumb.jpg

I was sleeved on the 17th at 3 I came out of anesthesia super nauseated. The doc said my procedure was perfect and he can't figure out the nausea. I am allergic to so much drugs this didn't surprise me. On the plus side my pain is minimal and no gas pain

I realized I was getting nauseous from the painkiller they gave me. I stop pressing the button after I realized it and then they started giving me pills for the pain instead. That did wonders!!! I'm still in the hospital Bcz they still haven't take out the drain but hopefully today I can go home :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
