I start my liquid diet Tuesday. I am feeling really overwhelmed and very much in mourning as I get closer and closer. My love affair with food is about to end and I am terrified.

To be a Healthy mama -of course you are terrified about ending your love affair with food. I felt exactly the same way. Food has been a source of comfort, pleasure, and for me (embarrassingly) a recreational past time.

I shared these feelings with my best friend the night before surgery. She said "think of your relationship w/food like a relationship with a toxic boyfriend. Sure on the surface he is fun, but time after time he lets you down, the fun is short lived, and in the end he makes your life miserable. ".

I don't know why that perspective helped me, but it did.

Time for a change. New friends, new life, new you!!!good luck and welcome to the sleevers!!

My date actually got moved up, and I'm going tomorrow!!! My check-in is 12:00, surgery 2:00. Today was rough, but drank as much Water as I could all day, and it did help. I'm excited, but yes, nervous too. My family gave me the royal treatment today, knowing I'd be super hungry. It was nice, and keeping busy helped. I'm so glad your hubby has come around. I'm sure it was his moment for jitters, but glad it passed just in time to give you the boost you need.

Awww I am super happy for you. You will do fine.....not sure it they taught you the breathing technique, if they did remember to use it. I'll get my check in time on tomorrow and post it. Meanwhile you try to sleep as comfortable tonight as you can and we'll talk after the surgeries. Best wishes

Hey ms nicnic, those were my exact times for check in and surgery. I had such an easy time of it. No nausea, gas or real pain. So I am sending you my good karma and hoping your surgery and post surgery go like mine. I'm passing it on to you. Oh and I'm a big baby when it comes to pain etc so it really was easy. I am going on my second wk post op and getting into the groove regarding how all this works. I've even started walking.

Enough about me-this is about you and how smoothly it will be for you. I'm holding your hand long distance and will have you in my heart tomorrow. Be we'll. Paula

I had my surgery 1/6/2015!! I am home and learning all kinds of new life challenges! I have been doing really good since my surgery, so much I am down 17 lbs, but I feel like I might eat the wrong things and start gaining again. Maybe because that seems to be the past patterns before surgery and not used to not going back to my old ways!! I think I have lost so much in less than a week that my expectations are 17lbs every week for the next month or two... Probably big expectations!!! I need to learn patience! I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to hearing your stories too!

Awww thanks so much for those kind words. I really appreciate it. I've been trying to keep myself as busy as I could today so I wouldn't have much time to sit and panic. It's good to hear that yours went wonderful and I accept the vibes and will pass mine on to the next person just as you did. :-) It's good to have someone holding my hands and I will remember you Paula! Thanks a bunch and I will check in when I can afterwards.

I had my surgery yesterday around 3. I was in preop an hour longer than anticipated. I had a bad moment when the nurse told me, "you don't look like you need gastric sleeve surgery." Her tone felt very condescending.

I had a brief but intense panic about whether or not I was doing the right thing. I got teary, thank God my hubby was there to make me feel better. I then got really angry, and felt it was so unprofessional of the nurse to say that to me. She has no idea what it's been like, gaining and loosing, having my hips and knees ache when I try an exercise, and all the other host of things that come with being obese. Thank goodness I haven't seen her again!

Once I was wheeled into the OR things moved very fast. I remember entering the OR. ! and then nothing until waking up in recovery. and was in my room following recovery by 6. I've been sleeping a ton. Little green pain med button has been my friend. I've been up to walk twice, had nausea and cramping, but all tolerable.

I thought I'd need entertainment in here but so far nod off every time I start something. Speaking of, I think I'll nap now. Best wishes to all about to join me on the other side of the table!

Oh my!! That nurse has no right to "Judge"..its very unprofessional..if that was me I wouldve complained ...as you may of panicked ..not had the surgery and ate yourself silly..people do not realise how deep our issue go and our history is different from others. ...It couldve undone all that hard work you put into it...this nurse may say this all the time and no one saus a thing. It was the same with me but with the psychologist that kept holding me back..said she "understood" my pain as she sat back showing off her size 00 figure! I complained as these people play with our lives...i must say not all are like that..but this woman thought she had control..within 3 weeks if complaining i got my surgery date which is in 2 weeks!! Stay in control you have come such a long way! X

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
