So I'm a month out RNY and I have been all over the Internet reading about success and failed surgeries. Now after a hour of reading horror stories, from death to major complications 10,20.even 5 years down the road I'm petrified! !! Anyone who's a veteran bypass regret there choice?

My husband and best friend are both 2 years post surgery and not a single complication. Living full, healthy, normal lives. What kinds of complications are you reading about? You can always find horror stories if you go looking.

I wasn't really looking I was looking for more of time line success stories for gastric.bypass and the first few post were ok and then all n of a sudden on person posted a bad experience and the whole for changed. It was flooded with anemia and severe Iron issues constant blood transfusions IV iron several times a week mystery pain and illness that Dr's couldn't treat or fix due to lack of absorption. I know if u go looking for trouble you will find it. But once I read like 1,2 posts my curiosity got the best of me. When I researched in the beginning pre op I'll admit I didn't really dig into post op several years down the road, it was more like 2 to 3.

I am 3 months out and it is still the BEST decision I have ever made for myself. No medical problems, fewer health problems and I feel fantastic physically, emotionally and spiritually. So very happy and not one regret :)

I am also 3 months out, no regrets whatsoever. So much energy, weight loss, looking better, feeling great and gaining confidence. But I follow all the NUT directions, no sampling things I shouldn't ever eat again just to see how my pouch reacts and very strict with taking my Vitamins every day too. At our surgery Ctr support group last night I was actually dismayed to hear how so many people are cheating on their food. My reasons for surgery are permanent life style change, not a quick way to lose weight. One lady in support group is 4 mons out and she's smoking again and had the sleeve. A big NoNo and could potentially be fatal, she's crazy.

You should go to the veterans forum. I have a friend who is 5 years out and hasn't had not a single complication.

I had Gastric bypass on Thursday April 23rd. My doctor insist on me staying here until Monday or Tuesday. I still have my drain, I am on airflow oxygen, nothing to eat or drink since the Wednesday before surgery. The doctor wants to do the liquid test on Monday to see if my new stomach will function properly. I have not been hungry, but I am in so much pain and I am on pain meds every 4 hours. When does it goes away? This pain is worst than a c-section and I am starting to regret the surgery.

Hi Tanya! I know time in the hospital feels like it will never end. I'm sorry you're in pain and having to be there for so long. But trust your Dr. to be making the best decisions for you and your health! Try to remind yourself that you made a big decision that will improve the rest of your life - and that kind of decision is an investment that takes time. My first few months were really rough and it felt like I had messed myself up forever. But I'm 8 months out now and I barely remember that time now. I feel great and life is pretty much normal now.

So, try to be patient with the process. When you're in the middle of it, it feels like forever. But it's a short time in the big picture. Better days are coming! Just do what the Dr says and hang in there!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
