I've heard a lot of people talk about a three week plateau but at just two weeks post op I gained one pound and have been stuck at this weight for about a week now. I will officially be three weeks post op on Thursday. Is this a normal plateau or could I be doing something wrong?

Nope, that's the one. I did pretty much the same thing. Just stick to the plan and the scale will start moving again, I promise.

Yup. just a little speed bump. body is still in shock from surgery.... saying wooooaaaahhhhhh.

best explanation I have found is here. it states:

A "stall" a few weeks out is inevitable, and here's why.

Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of Water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a saber tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

Just keep working the plan... it will come off... it happens to all of us, the best advise i can give you is to NOT worry about the stalls... understand they are going to happen & may last longer then 2 weeks, but then it start coming off again...I had almost 6 weeks stall... I didnt stress out (did it bug me, sure, but i didnt let it consume me or bring me down - i just kept working the plan & upped my exercise).

Good luck :)

I have been stalled for the past 8 days, so I was really glad to see that explanation. I've lost 18 lbs post surgery and I was sleeved on 9/12 so I'm not unhappy. I will say that it still feels like things are getting smaller.

Does anyone else have trouble going to the bathroom? That is my biggest issue. I'm on soft foods/full liquids. So I'll do scrambled egg in the morning, chicken salad in the afternoon, creamy Soup for dinner and a Protein shake for snack. I definitely am not getting more than 3 oz in each meal so I know the pouch is small. I'm probably only getting in about 32 to 48 ozs of Water though and I know that has to improve. Its hard to remember to keep sipping. Still....no regrets!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
