Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I've been spending a lot of time in Rants & Raves since I joined LBT, partly because it's fun, but also because for the most part it's very GLBT friendly. Unless I haven't looked in the right place, I don't think there's a support thread for us, so I decided to start one!

A little about me. I'm Eddie & I'm a 42-year-old Gay man. I have a partner of just over nine years (henceforth referred to as DH), a 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter. DH and I are stupid. Don't believe me, just ask our kids. DH has hypothyroidism and had not been able to lose any weight after his thyroid "went nuts" several years ago. I've just been overweight all my life. He was banded on 2/21/07 and I'm getting mine next Wednesday (5/16). I can't wait!

Anyway, I would love to hear from all the GLBT folks out there. Hopefully this can be a place for us to freely discuss our unique issues and get support we may not be able to get elsewhere.

Welcome Tom!

Nice pic Edd!

have a good day!

xoxoxoxoxo

I'm a gay!

My surgery is December 24th. I'm looking forward to it. Did the pre-op today. I weighed in at 292. Which is terrible, but considering last year I was around 425 I'll take it. Lost the first 133 pounds with diet and exercise, getting the band to help with the last 100 and more importantly to insure I don't gain it back.

What else..........I'm 23 years old. I posted a picture of myself in another thread. Search my posts if you are interested in putting a name to the face.

Glad to meet you all.

Hi Dorr.

I caught your hottieness on that other thread....Boys, he's a cutie pie.

Welcome!

Nice pic, Edd...long time no hear!

And BTW, I'd have issues letting my kids sit on your lap...(-:

:cry some people are just no fun..lol Ho, Ho, Ho!

Hey, Glad I found htis tread. I am a gay bear just starting this journey. My bf had bypass and went from 365 to 180 in 18 months. He motivatred me. I spoke to my dr. and he thinks this is best option for me. We'll see how it goes. I worry about approval from insurance. Talk to you all later.

Tom

Newbies! Yay! Welcome, fellow bear! You do realize after we get down to goal we can't call ourselves bears anymore, right? We will be some mighty fine otters though! :) BTW, my DH was banded in February, so we have something in common.

Wow, Juli was right - you are a hottie! Too bad I'm not single and a couple of decades younger. :) At any rate, it great to have you aboard.

I am almost done with my shopping. I have two things left to get and i will be done. I hate the stores this time of year, except for the additional cute guys out and about...lol. Which might be why I took a Santa pic last week.

I am curious, did any of you go through a period in which you just didn't want to weigh yourself? I haven't weighed in almost three weeks because I just don't want to know. My doctor seems to be happy with my progress, so that is a good thing.

Damn boy! Talk about your hotties! I may have to dump Sean and move south! You're looking mighty fine there Edd. (I have to admit, I am curious as to what other components of the Santa suit you may or may not have been wearing when that pic was taken :heh:). Don't worry about the weigh-ins. I went through a phase of weighing every day and would get very frustrated when I hadn't lost something. Now I weigh whenever I think about it. I'm still at a plateau, but trying to get my restriction right. I went for a fill last Thursday and only got 1 cc. Now I'm too tight again so I'm going back in on Monday to have .5 cc taken back out.:tired I'm very sensitive to fills apparently. That one cc was the difference between feeling like I could eat anything in sight and not being able to keep hardly any solids down. Oh well, I knew coming into this that it was a process. No worries. :Banane48:

Awww, thanks Eddie. As for your curiosity, I could answer that question, but it would mean sending you to another site for the answer. ;-) Thanks, I was beginning to think I was crazy for not wanting to weight myself. I know I am losing because my clothes are getting looser. Plus, the women at work keep groping me. My parents got happy when I told them about that because they think some "woman" will make me straight..lol.

I have only had 1 fill so far because my doctor says I am doing fine without any additional fills right now. I wonder if I will be as sensitive about them in the future as some of ya'll are on here. I am curious to see, but I will admit I am not crazy about getting then in general.

Hi all,

Newbie from New Orleans. Banded on 11/28/07. Still a little sore and full of gas.(shoulder pain) Started weight 278, lost 22lbs before surgery. Day of surgery weighed 256. Now I am 251. Looking forward to being smaller. Does anyone have advice for shoulder pain post-op?:help:

Get up and move. Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but it will help dissipate the gas. At any rate, welcome! I love newbies!!

Thanks Eddie.......congrats on your progress too....

Hello everyone. I start my pre-operative diet today and my surgery is two weeks after that! I am going in for bloodwork and an Upper GI today. I took a picture this morning to track my progress, you'll have to forgive my apperance, it is 6:00am!

Hope everyone is doing well............

Dorr,

Thanks for posting your picture.

You'll do really well with the procedure.

Thanks!

Your ticker is looking mighty impressive. I hope I do as well as you have.

Dorr,

Good on you for your pre-band loss. I'm one who's also lost on Atkins (quite painlessly) and yet gained it all back. I'm slowly coming to realize (DOH!) how this band is really going to work for me--and that's allowing me to keep the weight OFF once it's gone.

You look great, you must be tall!
