Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I've been spending a lot of time in Rants & Raves since I joined LBT, partly because it's fun, but also because for the most part it's very GLBT friendly. Unless I haven't looked in the right place, I don't think there's a support thread for us, so I decided to start one!

A little about me. I'm Eddie & I'm a 42-year-old Gay man. I have a partner of just over nine years (henceforth referred to as DH), a 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter. DH and I are stupid. Don't believe me, just ask our kids. DH has hypothyroidism and had not been able to lose any weight after his thyroid "went nuts" several years ago. I've just been overweight all my life. He was banded on 2/21/07 and I'm getting mine next Wednesday (5/16). I can't wait!

Anyway, I would love to hear from all the GLBT folks out there. Hopefully this can be a place for us to freely discuss our unique issues and get support we may not be able to get elsewhere.

Has anyone else seen the film where Rosie and gay families take a cruise?? I have seen it so many times, I love it. I am still amazed that there are idiots out there that don't realize that being in love and being a family does not matter whether you are gay or straight. There was a couple on the cruise that got married that have adopted five children.. how amazing and what an inspiration to us all. If we could all have that kind of love to share, what an awesome gift that would be. When they are married, you can see the love in their eyes. Well, I just wanted to share how I feel about seeing all these wonderful families. So many children would benefit, if only the laws would change.

Thank you everyone for making me feel welcome. I am honored by your hospitality.

I'm so excited! Tomorrow I get to start the soft phase and I'm looking forward to some texture. Heck, I even went out this morning a bought a food scale. I'm ditching the medicine cups! Anyone have a suggestion as what would be good to start out eating?

Can someone please explain how I get the weight loss ticker to post on my replies? I'm a computer dummie!!!!!

Hey everyone!

I'm Liz, age 23 and looking into lapband. I've been to an informative meeting about the procedure and have met with my surgeon. Now, I need to sit down with someone and figure out how I am going to pay for this procedure since my insurance company says it does not cover weight loss surgery. Alittle about my gay side... I "came out" when I was a freshman in college. Struggled with my religious upbringing and my inner feelings. As of right now, I do not practice any religion. I question a lot of times about there being a "God". Now that I've grown from my past experiences with figuring myself out, I am completely comfortable with my sexuality. Please feel free to chat with me anytime!

Liz

Hi Lookin.

Glad you're here. Hit us up with questions, we are a supportive lot. Your coming out story mirrors a lot of what I've seen, it's a challenge but you seem like you've got a good handle on it.

On that note imnanrn, there's a thread for just that question on the ticker but I couldn't find it. Maybe someone can tell you. You could try to hit mine and it will take you tickerfactory.com and follow their directions....I'm of little help.

Hey all.

As of yesterday I FINALLY have some restriction. Before I had 2.5 ccs (in a 10cc band) and could eat anything and everything. Yesterday the doctor upped it to 6ccs and I can definitely feel the difference. I'm still on liquids for another day, but I hope this helps. I've been eating right and working out like crazy and wasn't losing any weight at all so I hope having more restriction finally gets things going again! Argh!

Hope everyone else is well, hello to all the new folks.

xo

:bump2:Hey Gay Bandsters...We almost fell off the first page! Have a great weekend everyone. My honey is home and we are going to a party tonight, Christmas shopping tomorrow, the movies sometimes, I am cooking salmon and then some relaxing too:D! Be safe and have fun!!!

I'm seeing my honey this weekend too. I'm driving up to MI after work. I can't wait!

TGIF!

Just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is doing and let you know I finally got around to creating my blog (its in the signature line). Also, I have had a cold for about three weeks and it really sucks. I am finally getting better thanks to some good ole antibiotics. I go back to see my doctor next Wednesday. I am not sure if he is going to give me a second fill at this time. I’ll keep ya posted.

OMG!!! I FOUND MY PEOPLE!!! LOL! Im not gay, Im very straight actually, however I seem to be attracted to the gay scene and I loves it! lol! Im so excited I found you guys, but if you dont want me in here because it is kind of secluded its cool lol! Im just excited that yall are here!

Everyone is welcomed here. The more support the better. It is just nice to find a place where you can fit in and be yourself.

IDK why, but I fit in with the gay community better than anywhere else....LOL Im the first VIP at the gay club in Corpus Christi who is a straight REAL girl! lol! I love you guys, you embrace and welcome all (well as long as their outfits matches, *kidding*)<joke with one of my friends> anyways, glad to meet you all

I'm straight and no one has kicked me out yet. Well, I'm mostly straight...

I go to the straight forums and haven't been kicked out of those for being queer. I think we can do the same for the straight people who come here. :)

Welcome.

Hi family. Sorry I haven't posted for a while. It's been a bitch of a last couple of weeks. Kaitie's accident was last Tuesday morning. Last Thursday night my 24-year-old nephew who is in the Army and home on leave before he's deployed to Iraq was driving home to my sister's house after being out with friends. There was a 15-year-old girl whose mother had hit a dog and stopped to check on it. The girl was out in the middle of the road kneeling over the dog when Chris came down the road. It was dark and a neighbor was in his lane with a flashlight pointed in his direction. Chris swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid hitting the neighbor and didn't see the girl with the dog. She (and the dog) were killed instantly. Very, very sad. Chris was not speeding, nor was he in any way impaired. There was just no avoiding what happened. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the facts. Now the Army has extended his leave so he can undergo some intensive counseling, plus they will send him for four more weeks when he gets back. They have also delayed his deployment indefinitely. So that was two weeks ago.

On top of everything else, Sean's working a lot again so we've had several fights about it. Needless to say, the stress level in our house has been through the roof. In fact, Sean's working right now and won't be home until probably 9:00 or so tonight. AARRGGHH!!!

So, now that I've vented, welcome to all the newbies! If I didn't scare you off, hopefully you'll stick around and be a part of our little family. And we love our Str8 folks! In fact, most of the time I forget who's Gay and and who's not (except for Pamela, who looks like a Lesbian - hehehe).
