New to fifties group

Hi all, I joined this forum in 2011 anticipating surgery, but my employer's insurance would not approve, but then I came down with leukemia and that totally shot it out of the Water. But I am back and hope it will be happening before the end of the year, with Medicare since I had to stop working.

I am looking for anyone who has been sleeved or going to be for support and encouragement.

I hope some will pick this group to communicate with others.

Hi guys I'm here too. I haven't posted because I haven't had much to say.lol.

My weight loss is moving slow as well but overall very happy. I weigh 202,so close to Onederland, can't wait. Down two sizes and I have not had any issues with food. Well, let me change that, pork still makes me a little nauseous but other than that, no problems.

Lannie, what is pending to get your surgery date?

@@Grandma2tweeties congrats on your recent surgery, glad you are not having any issues.

Merry Christmas & happy holidays to all.

I guess we should post status updates every now & then, just to keep this thread going. I really do want this group to continue.

Hi Everyone,

I'm here too, just busy with surgery last week! Mine was on the 15th and feeling good. Still pretty sore and still have some gas but other than that great. Getting very sick of the shakes, they are all so sweet, never thought I would say I was sick of sweet stuff!!! . Gonna try some plain yogurt today and see how that goes. I know everyone is just busy with the holidays as well but very happy to still have this support!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

Martha :D

Hi girls! I am here, too! @mgmboston surgery passed, wow. Glad to hear you are okay! How about tomato juice with unflavored protein? Just a thought... @Grandom tweeties congrats for n your surgery! How time flies and now on the mend! The rest of you I hope with all of the Christmas shenigans you are surviving with parties etc. I am having my surgery on the 30th!!! Ahhhh!!! Pretesting all done and only the day before its a liquid diet. @@Lainie we are here and we will keep this thread going. Merry Christmas everyone!!! HoHoHo!! Lisa

Hi everyone Happy Holidays of all! Still here I ahve a difficult time logging on to BP or writing a post that freezes, frustrating. I just wanted to add my experience with tomato juice because someone just suggested it as an alternative to the sweet options. I didn't read all my NUTs notes before I tried some V8 and ended up with a very irritated belly. Tomato juice can cause irritation, too acidic for some, so be careful. LainieG thinking of you and hope to share your sleeve success in the coming months. Losing slowly but this week had a bunch of NSVs tied my own shoes, shopped then entire mega grocery store, got rid of 4 bags of clothes, cooked 2 celebration dinners including my own birthday bash and all this while having some intense pain from 2 bone spurs and an Achilles tendon problem- not bragging about doing it just sharing how I can do life with this utterly amazing sleeve. Wishing everyone good health, peace and happiness.

Merry Christmas everyone! I'm here!! Still waiting in the wings. I had my last Dr's appt (for the required 6 month Dr supervised diet) last week. All other tests are done. My insurance kicks in on January 1. I've been in touch with the insurance coordinator at the bariatric hospital (somehow we became friends on FB!!) and she told me to call and get started on January 2nd. I will then only have 3 appointments needed, then it'll be submitted for insurance approval, which I have been informed, will approve based on bmi of 41. Congrats to all of you "losers", and happiest of holidays to everyone!

Sherrie

Hi you mentioned that V8 may cause irritation to the tummy... Do you think it may make a difference if I dilute the juice with water to reduce acid? I brought a bottle today for prepping for post op. What do you think?

@@bellabill it may help to water it down, I didn't do that because I was desperate to get potassium in. I would use caution and also not do what I did and spend a day drinking only the v8. v8 fusion was fine also decaf coffee unsweetened and unjury chicken soup protein drinks help fill the savory craving. Wishing you the best. It just keeps getting better and better!

@@bellabill just wanted to add that although sweet,

Gatorade was a life saver. Jello was good and then in Phase 2 and now in Phase 4 unjury chocolate splendor, unflavored and chicken soup flavor are staples.

"Vsglady" If we were in the same city I would give you my Unjury chicken. I tried it a few times and didn't like it. And now that I'm on regular foods, I will never use it.

@@Kathy812 lol! Toilet paper and my chicken soup Unjury and I'm set for any winter snow storm. I even mixed it in with mashed potatoes. The unjury not the TP, although at this point I could use the roughage. Anyone have any fiber suggestions? And Kathy if you are ever in the DC or Baltimore area we have to get together, with or without the chicken soup.

Wow, I couldn't handle the unjury chicken soup or the chocolate, gave them all away. I can do the vanilla though and it's good.

Hi 50tee ' s I'm still here :) I was sleeved on December 8th. Doing well postop tomorrow. I have a low BMI so since December 1st I have lost 13 lbs, not much but I will take it. I have moved from Obesity II to Obesity I. Working my way slowly to puree foods :) Happy Holidays. ????

@@Vsglady, that's funny. You are easy to please (soup & toilet paper).

Likewise, vsglady, if you're ever in the Chicago area let me know.

@@#9grammy, I like the vanilla flavor as well but premier vanilla is my fav. I've been getting most of my protein from food so honestly I haven't had a shake in several weeks.

ladies I need to share this because quite a few of you may be able to relate.

My doctor told me if I did not have a menstrual cycle for a year, I can consider myself in menopause. My last cycle was June 2013. You can imagine how ecstatic I was in June of this year when I had been menstrual free. I officially declared myself in menopause.

To my surprise guess what came yesterday ?!!! I am very upset. I'm not sure if this happens with menopause or if this was a result of my surgery (hormones out of whack) I definitely have questions.

@@Kathy812 Kathy I too celebrated in June! But over the weekend I noticed something very faint. My initial thoughts were surgery was causing a hormonal reaction..... I did set up a gyn appointment but not until after the new year. In 2012 I had gone 11 months without a period and the dr. Explained that if a menopausal women goes a year without a period and then has one, she should be seen by a dr. Better to check things out. I would als ask the surgeon they know bariatric patients best.
