EGD question ( Dr. Hoehn) Kc Bariatric

Recommended Posts

Any one tell me what to expect with the EGD? Dr. Hoehn is doing mine next Wednesday, was wondering if I would be asleep for this, not sure about them sticking the scope down my throat if I'm awake. Doing this at the Bariatric Center of Kansas City at Shawnee Mission.

They will numb the back of your throat and put a plastic thing between your teeth. You may not remember the procedure but you won't be "out". You will be laying on your left side and when you come back to yourself you will be in recovery. I worked in surgery for 15+ years and have done a lot of egd's. If this isn't exact it is pretty close. Hope that helps

I took a nap, woke up, and they were done. I do not remember a thing.

You know the stuff that Michael Jackson doctor gave him to put him to sleep? Yeah, that's what they used on me. Best naps I've ever had. You wake up and remember NOTHING. I've had three EGD's. They were all easy peasy. You got this. BTW,it's a very short procedure.

I hope I don't sound stupid but what is this EGD that you all are referring to? Just reading the responses are making me nervous.

The EGD is usually done at the same time the colonoscopy is done but not everyone has the EGD. It's the upper GI where they put a scope down your throat to see your esophagus and your stomach. People with Reflux and such have to have this done prior to surgery. It involves no prep and is easy. The colonoscopy ...........well that is no fun. ha

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
