Medicaid in NC does NOT cover VSG

Recommended Posts

Anyone else here in NC really wanted the VSG and found out it is not covered by Medicaid? I was really set on having a sleeve.

Have you found any info on wls with medicaid in nc? Im currently waiting for an appointment with my regular dr to get a referral to a surgeon. And the only surgeon I can find to accept Medicaid is Wake Forest Baptist Medical in Winston Salem.

I have been told by a representative at Medicaid that Medicaid NC does not cover VSG. However, they do cover lapband, RNY and DS.

You're welcome. That was last July 2014. I am not sure if any changes have been made since then. I think you should double check just to be sure. Good luck.

Do you know if medicaid requires you to have 2 years of documentation from a doctor showing that you have addressed your weight issues with them? I've heard that's what's required, but I've also heard that it was just 6 months of failed weight loss attempts.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
