When Do I Get My Energy Back?!?!?!

I friends!

Almost two weeks post op here, and doing well, despite being "hungrier" than I expected and pretty sick of Protein Shakes, but that's not why I post.

One of the main reasons I got the sleeve is to help my body get my energy back. At 381 pounds, I had obviously tired my body out, but I was too tired to do anything about it! Total catch 22! I also have mild sleep apnea and am on CPAP. I have needed (and I mean NEEDED) a mid-day nap every day for nearly 2 years. Sometimes it feels like it's in my head, but most of the time I physically can't go on with my day.

Obviously, I am still in the recovery period, so I know there is a certain level of exhaustion that comes with that, but I would LOVE to hear some inspiring stories about people's changes in energy level, sociability, activity level, etc, after the sleeve!!

I remember being crazy tired for the first few weeks. People kept on talking about walking several miles a day a week after surgery, and I simply could not fathom how they were doing that. I'd go to the grocery store around the corner and come home feeling like I'd run a marathon, then pull myself up the two flights of stairs to my apartment, taking four stops on the way.

But I think by week four or even three that had all pretty much stopped. I felt back to normal. And at week five when I started going to the gym, I actually started to feel more energetic. I don't think I'll ever be, like, a high energy person or anything, but the difference between now and a year ago is staggering. I sleep better too.

So, hang in there. Our bodies all recover at different speeds, but you'll start to feel normal again, and then bar for normal will just keep getting raised.

Patience is key. At about 3 weeks out it begins to creep back and at 5 weeks out, you'll feel like running, never tire. :)

I'm also 2 weeks postop and I am tired all the time too! I literally can sleep for 10-12 hours every 24 hours. I think it's just part of the healing process. Our bodies have been through a lot. I have my post op on Wednesday and will mention it to my Doc but I'm not too concerned about it. I think once we begin getting more substance nutritionally that our energy should improve also! Your body can only do so much on Protein Shakes and clear liquids! Best of luck on your journey!!

I am now going on 6 weeks out and my energy has returned. Those first 4 weeks were brutal!!! So so tired and fuzzy brained by afternoon. Now that I have more food options as I am healing I have so much more energy!!! Hang in there - it only gets better and easier. I was SO HUNGRY too on the liquids and soft soft foods. Was concerned. Now with so many food options, not hungry, more relaxed and full of energy.

So glad to hear I'm not alone. Were many of you chronic mappers before surgery and, of so, has that subsided at all?

My energy started to return when my diet changed to include all foods. It was at this time that I also added a daily Iron supplement. This was about 10-12 weeks out from surgery. I also used a CPAP machine but did not have to take afternoon naps. I am going to be retested shortly but feel like I do not need the CPAP anymore. The. CPAP is another factor in the energy equation.

I did have to increase carbohydrates at about 4 months because I needed the energy for exercise

You don't really notice at first that you have more energy, you just suddenly realize. For me it was around 8 weeks, I still have days when I feel exhausted but those are less and less.

Exercise is a killer but it does get easier too

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
