EFFECTS ON CHILDREN?

Recommended Posts

Does getting the sleeve surgery have any negative effects on your kids?

My children have gotten used to all the bad habits I've raised them on (my fault) and I've been telling them how I'm going to change my life and stop buying all of the junk and processed foods (or ATLEAST reduce it by 95%). They understood but they acted sad about it.

I have four babies:

10 yo Justin (son)

7 yo Ashtyn (daughter)

5 yo Trason (son)

2 yo Shaylen (daughter)

I have four kids as well 18, 15, 5 (twins) all boys. I made small changes over time and I didn't make them feel like it was a punishment and they are handling it really good. I also had remember that I had the surgery not them so I still by them things they like just not as much. I no longer buy soda and they don't even notice.

I agree with that. I don't really see it as punishment though because eating processed foods isn't good for them anyway. I will just try to make their favorite snack for them in a homemade healthier way. There is a cookbook that teaches you how to make poptarts and other kids favorites ALL homemade and healthier :-). I may ask my friend to borrow it because she is the one who showed me lol

That's a good idea to try and make their favorite Snacks homemade. You should have them help you that might make the transition even smoother. I hate cooking/baking so that would never work for me :) By punishment I meant how they may perceive it if their favorite foods are just snatched away, mommy is on a diet so I can't have my favorite foods. There is the occasional push back from my husband and kids because there are things I refuse to buy or make

Yes that's true...I am going to try to explain it to them that my unhealthy eating has put me in this situation so I want us all to have a new lifestyle...they will still get treats on occasion but I definitely think we have a sugar addiction and I'm working to ATLEAST reduce our intake by 80%...baby steps right?

only good things! my son, who is about 20 pounds overweight is exercising more and eating less junk. (we never had much in the house to begin with, but he is a couch potato and loves a huge bowl of Pasta like some kids like candy)

mom getting healthy can only have positive affects on the kids, even if getting rid of the junk is tough.

My children are much older... the one that is living with me clearly eats much healthier. He slimmed down a bit over the last few years - he was never obese but on the chunkier side of normal. So... the EFFECT has been great!

Just focus on the positive aspects of eating healthy rather than having them worry about the negative things. I bet once they see you happier and healthier...and able to do alot more things with them rather than just watch on the sidelines, they won't care about what they can't or shouldn't eat.

I still have some Snacks in the house for my daughter(7) but for me the sleeve surgery took away all cravings for anything sweet. I am so happy about that, it may change over time but for now I am going with it. Now it did not take away my cravings for Bagels unfortunately so I don't buy them. =)

i have 2 kids, a tween (12) and a toddler. smaller one doesn't notice a thing. my older one has been a little emotional because we no longer go out to eat as much as we did, and also the fact that EVERYTHING we used to do as a family included eating somewhere (restaurant) and doesn't too much anymore. she is RAIL THIN naturally but implementing the changes like no pop, cooking at home, etc will ultimately benefit her in the long run. i'm 7 wks post op and she has pretty much adjusted...i still keep her favorites around and they aren't an issue for me at all.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
