Nuvaring Users - Did you take it out?

Recommended Posts

I asked a nurse at the surgeon's office over the phone if I should take out my Nuvaring, and she told me yes just because birth control causes higher chances of blood clots. Then I called my prescribing doctor, as directed by the office, and he said not to worry about it since I will be up and moving right away and I don't want to be on my period during surgery not knowing what my body will do after going off of birth control.

What was your experience with this?

I would take it out because my surgeon recommended it too, no birth control. Also, you need to do something else for birth control because it's also dangerous to get pregnant right after surgery.

She's right I took mine out as soon as I got home from the hospital and didn't put it back in for about 4 weeks I wanted to make sure there was no blood clots.

I'm not having sex for quite a while, so it's ok. Single lady here! I just use it to make life easier.

So you didn't take it out until AFTER your surgery? I was instructed to do it a month before.

The dietician I see said I will not have to take mine out. I'm going to ask my OB just to make sure though. I would say if you're nervous, treat it like all other birth control and quit using it a month before and put it back in a month after.

yes because my cycle came as soon as I took it out didn't want that along with surgery but you do what you feel will be best for you it worked well for me that way.

Follow your surgeon's instructions. The guidelines they have in place are for a reason and it is to minimize complications that are known to occur. Birth control (ALL forms) carry the risk of blood clots. Introduce another risk factor such as surgery and the risks increase substantially. Best wishes to you and good luck on your surgery.

Take it out is what I highly recommend. I had minor surgery a few years ago and the dr didn't recommend I take it out and I ended up with a blood clot. It's just safer to have it out. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck with your surgery.

My surgeon told me no birth control for one month prior. I am on nuva ring

Then I could put it in one month after.

I did not get my period during surgery because I took it out 3 months prior actually and then put it in 3 weeks ago.

Took my body a bit to get used to it again and I had breakthrough bleeding for two weeks but back on course now.

I took mine out a week before surgery. Then about 3weeks after I finally put it back in. They told me a week after surgery I could put it back but I wasn't in desperate need of it

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
