Just started week 4, anyone else? Whatcha eating?

I was sleeved on 6/30, and I went swimming on Tuesday without a problem. I didn't really swim much, but I was definitely submerged in Water for an extended period of time. My doctor had said that I could swim after 3 weeks... It may be worth it to mention that I didn't have a drain or anything after surgery, and I also didn't have any stitches (my doctor uses dermabond (sp?)). I think that might make a difference when it comes to incision healing and the time from surgery to swimming.

Hm. My next appointment is Monday ( the day after the new I of course) I guess I'll call and ask, although I have a feeling he will say he wants to check my incisions.

Hi, I was banded on the 15th, and was moved to a puréed diet yesterday (23rd). I had 2 scrambled eggs, which were fine, but a few hours later I ate too much yogurt ( not sure how much ), and had a bad tummy ache for a few hours. I went with a shake for dinner.

Today I had the eggs again, in the afternoon, about 8 oz of mashed potatoes that I made with skim milk. I had some GI pain about an hour later, which passed. I just had about 7oz of refried black Beans, and so far, so good.

I guess it's a learning curve right now.

Hi all I was sleeved on 6/30 and even though I was cleared for soft foods I have not been successful in keeping them down. I went to the NUT today and she wants me back on purees for another week no puking for 5 days and then to try very bland foods as acidic foods are not my friend. So back to two shakes and yogurt a day. I have my month post op tomorrow. I want to be able to eat even though I'm not so much hungry I just want some energy.

Foods I have tried so far:

Scrambled egg with cheese ate about half.. worked good tried to add ham the next day and no bueno

2 oz Hummus with pesto mixed in... not good

2 oz Ricotta pesto and mozz heated... not good

2oz Ground turkey and bean chili... 20 mins later no good

3oz ground turkey and zuchinni casserole... stayed down however fought the urge for like a hour

No sugar added apple sauce... good

All yogurts so far ... good and can eat whole container 5oz now

Mashed potatoes... 20 mins later no good

Roasted pepper and Tomato Soup with ricotta cheese... yum taste like lasagna.. great!

nectar shakes with Water or unsweetened almond/coconut milk... great 8oz

4 oz cottage cheese flavored w/ sf toffee syrup... lil scary but stayed down

Bariatric Advantage shake in blender... no good too thick and airy

Bariatric fusion soft chew multi Vitamins... very delish and no problems eating.

Premade muscle milk... good

Watermelon... good

My surgery date was June 24. I just hit week four, and it seems that I am able to tolerate anything, in small quantities. I don't feel the need to puree everything if I stick to small bites and chew really well. I try to keep all my food choices, Protein based. I am sick to death of the Protein shakes, so I just quit drinking them a couple days ago, to give myself a break. I'll start back with them tomorrow. It is a struggle to get enough Water, but I realize that when my stomach hurts, it is because I need Water.

i am tolerating all foods too. my bari program recommends all foods in certain quantities, even good carbs. yesterday i had about 1 tbsp of spanish rice. i added some ground beef and cheese and fresh salsa and it was THE BOMB. so good. totally satisfied the carb craving. thankfully it was a catered lunch at work and we only have it about every 2-3 months. very good.

i feel badly for those still having problems and hope the very best for you. hang in there and i'm sure it will get better!

Hey all I had surgery on July 1. I just began week four. Wanted to know if anyone is in my boat and if you'd like to update weekly on your progress (healing, feeling and whatcha eating?) so we can compare and maybe get some ideas?

My healing has improved so much in the past week. sleeping position, bending, everything is so much more comfortable!

Today I ate 3oz of Greek yogurt for Breakfast, rotisserie chicken chopped super small with gravy for lunch and egg drop Soup and baby food sweet potatoes with pumkin pie spice for dinner. I still do 2 Protein shakes a day, started adding mint Extract in chocolate and I am doing better with them!

I'm going to a bachelorette party at the shore this weekend and would love to swim, has anyone done so yet?

Hope to hear from some people on week 4!

I would hold off on the pool. Your scars are susceptible still to bacterial infection, my sleeve surgery was also on July 1st. Pools and chlorine right now not really ideal, Beach yes. My weightloss is at 14 pounds. You are doing great. Increase more Protein. I'm in -taking 70+ grams of protein, buy Tofu cheese, it will be good for you, and try 3 shakes w Tofu cheese, lentil soup or Split Pea, for drinks Gatorade, Sparkling Ice, or 0 calorie Fruitpunch Cristal light. I bought the Wal-Mart jug of Pure Protein whey 1 scoop has 26grams and I mix it with 2%8oz milk. 3 of those with 2-3 oz of tofu, seem to be ideal protein.

The cravings will now begin; watch yourself; it gets tricky now....

Don't taste or sip carbohydrates or sweet stuff..no-no!

I have a close friend 6 weeks sleeved forward and she is experiencing different things. Consume lots of Water and take care of your hair good, use hair masks like Argan Oil intensive hydration, take Biotin and B complex Vitamins, Tec. My friends hair started getting a little dry and breakage, so I don't want my blonde hair fried!!

I just started week four and am down 21 pounds. Protein shakes, Vitamins and as for food...poached eggs, avocado, greek yogurt, soft white fish like flounder, Organic low sodium Soup from Trader Joes, love the butternut squash and tomatoe red pepper. Unsweetened applesauce with vanilla Protein powder and cinnamon. Guess it's time for me to step out a bit. Tough to get all the fluids in and get the nutrition up to meet my increasing activity and the timing of not drinking before or after meals.

Surgery date was 7/1. I'm doing really well with foods, and haven't had any issues. My only issues are if I take that 1 bite too much and then I feel it for a little while. Still trying to get a handle on when that last bite should be the last bite. ;) I've been eating lots of string cheese, some thin sliced deli meats, moist chicken breast, veggie burgers, tuna salad, egg salad & scrambled eggs, zucchini noodles, hummus, beanie weenies, FF refried Beans. So far, so good. I even had an office picnic this weekend and I was able to eat a hot dog cut up real tiny and mixed in some hot dog chili for extra moisture. It was fine and I didn't feel deprived that I couldn't eat the chips, burgers & Cookies. :) Oh, and I've really been struggling with the Protein shakes, but now that I can eat more foods I seem to be hitting my Protein goals with only 1 shake a day (thank goodness)!

My surgery was on 7/7/14 and I will start week 4 tomorrow. Last week I was so trilled with egg (I mixed with Water & milk cooked in microwave, it came out like a pudding) but I could eat half of an egg per meal. Until yesterday I tried scrumbled egg (1 egg) with 1 tablespoon of smoked salmon purée with cream cheese and milk, very soft and it went fine ( for 2 meals). The rest I stick with vegetable Soup & yogurt. I tried soft Pasta with salmon in spinach cream sauce purée but It made me sick all day with acid reflux. This week I think I will try tuna purée or rosted chicken purée, hope it will be ok with my stomach.

I still eat very slowly and have very small bite at a time, eat 4 times a day and now for dinner I eat only Protein.

So far I've lost 18.92 lbs since surgery. It's been a week that I lose only 0.5 lbs per day. Last week which was my 3rd week I lost 3.7 lbs.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
