What is this?!? The recovery from this surgery has been awful for me, I feel like all I do is come on here and complain. Any movement feels like someone is cutting me with a knife!

Did/does anyone else have that?

I can't wait to get to a place where I feel good about the surgery.

I gained weight after the surgery due to the fluids, but I have lost it all and then some, 18 pounds. I guess that's a plus...

I had a lot of pain in my abdomen, I found that if I wore an elastic support band it helped a lot, it kept things from moving around. See if your surgeon is okay with you wearing one, I found mine at Walgreens and wore it for about 4/5 weeks on and off, depending on what kind of activity I was doing.

Hey Pik! How are you feeling today? I'm curious to know what your doctor had to say.

Hey Pik! How are you feeling today? I'm curious to know what your doctor had to say.

Not feeling much better today and the dr told me the pain I am having is normal because that is the area where they had to go through the most muscle/connective tissue and the staples have the furthest to go through. He told me if it doesn't let up in the next couple of weeks to call the office. Also that the pain may be around 6-8 weeks status post surgery but should not be as bad.

None of this makes me feel much better today because I am having pain and nausea with dizziness as well.... ugh

Thanks so much for asking.

Did your doctor offer you something to manage the pain and nausea?

Yes, I already had some from the hospital but he gave me another rx for the pain. I really try and take it only once a day, in the evening. Some days I take it in the morning as well.

I havent had my bypass surgery yet - but I am almost an expert on abdominal surgery! I have had 4 so far!!

A coupl of things that have always helped me are: 1) If you ar able to get in a bath tub now - sit in warm Water as deep as you can get it. It takes pressure off your body. Swimming pool would be an alternate solution if available

2) Heating pad!

3) the support band is a great option though I just carried around a small pillow to use for the times when I needed to cough or just to help support my stomach.

Hope these help!

Thanks! I do use a heating pad but there is no way I am getting in my tub! I would probably get in there and be stuck until my fiance' gets off of work!

My RA doesn't allow me to do some things....

The scheduling of your pain meds can make a big difference. If you are only taking it once or twice a day and you were prescribed it more often than that, then you won't get adequate pain relief. If the Rx has you taking the pain meds more often, then it may be wise to follow the instructions, otherwise you will still have discomfort.

I agree with Racewalker....take your pain meds more frequently! The pain meds are meant to control your pain! Use them as prescribed so you can get some relief!

You know, I take es tylenol throughout the day. I did just take a dose of the pain medication, though. I just don't want to get hooked on that stuff!

The likelihood of getting hooked is extremely low if you are using your pain meds for a legitimate reason. You have a legitimate reason, YOU HAVE PAIN. Please, don't suffer unnecessarily, take your meds as prescribed. As you heal, your pain should subside. You are only 1 week out from surgery, and have reason to have pain. As a pharmacist, I have heard too often of people who suffer because of fear of becoming addicted when they have legitimate pain. Pain is a powerful, thing, and when it's not controlled, can really hamper the healing process.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
