Still Stuck...Feedback Please!

Recommended Posts

A couple of weeks ago I posted this forum question, http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/312336-stuck-feeling/, sad to say I am still having a few problems with this. I GREATLY appreciate everyones feedback.

It happens when I eat/drink, Protein shakes or pureed foods, I get this soreness/pressure/stuck feeling in my throat. The soreness/pressure/stuck feeling happens in my upper esophagus, no where near my belly, it's like right where the food starts to go down. It almost feels like a sore throat. I should also mention, it doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. I have backtracked and I am thinking I need to let my throat heal some more, so I am going back to full liquids.

Has anyone experienced this? Any feedback or suggestions on what it could be? Do you think it's a smart idea to go back to strictly liquids?

I thought maybe I was eating and drinking to fast and that may of agitated my Upper Esophageal Sphincter, but it happened right after surgery so I am thinking that's probably not the case and I am no longer taking pills so I don't think it's that. I have an EGD scheduled for August 1st, but I LOVE getting everyones feedback, opinions, etc..; you guys have helped me so much. :)

Seeing the glass half full, I'm down to 503lbs. :D

Could this be reflux? Are you taking a PPI? This sounds like indigestion/acid build up which is very, very common after WLS.....but I would say to def check with your medical team....

Hope you feel better,

Shel

Yes, im taking omethprazole. I was thinking it was GERD too but I don't have any actual heartburn or burning sensation. Would acid back all the way up to my throat and not cause any chest or lower esophagus discomfort?

I never suffered with Gerd but after surgery i had it constantly, mine was not typical gerd, no heartburn or indigestion just the lump in my throat from the acid backing up and burning my throat. Basically my PPIs were making it worse. You need to take something like a tbls of honey in a little warm Water to help soothe and coat the throat and esophagus. Hope it improves cause i hated having it every day......

You can have Gerd and never experience heartburn. I have Gerd and don't have heartburn. Mine presents as a weird full feeling in my throat.

At times it feels like my throat is swelling shut.

Also at times I have trouble getting food down my throat, especially if I drink Water with my meal. Hope you feel better soon.

I haven't had mine yet! Should be Oct or Nov. My Dr said Gerd is common after surgery, but should clear up within a few mos.

My surgeon explained that although you are feeling this in your throat it's actually your stomach. That may be when you are full, but if you have just started eating try to take smaller bites (pencil eraser size), chew 20 times and wait 1 minute between bites. There is an app called Eat Slower that may help w/ that. Good luck and congrats on your weight loss!! :)

Yes absolutely it feels exactly like having food or pill stuck in the side of your throat it makes it feel like you have poor gastric emptying it's a very strange feeling it's very strange to associated with indigestion but that's exactly what it is.....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
