I'm still pre-op, scheduled for surgery July 25 :) I'm not a huge fan of the Protein Shakes so was trying to think of some other options. Has anyone tried juicing and adding unflavored Protein Powder? Is this a viable option? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The Protein Shakes that are 30grm from costco aren't bad also the designer whey from trader joes or online is ok too. Much better then the 10 other I've tried.

Most of us have to adhere to a low carb diet initially and juice is very high in carbs and calories.

Isopure drinks are recommended by many people. We also make beef, chicken and vegetable stock from scratch (store bought in the square carton is yummy too) and to that I mix in my unflavored Protein powder. Eggface has a blog with excellent recipes at every stage.

@@2muchfun I was thinking juicing with vegetables more than fruit, which would mean less carbs/sugar. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

Juicing is supposed to be very healthy for us, but if you have a nutritionist, please run your ideas by that person. I personally will be juicing. I start my pre-op diet on Thur. So scary! Good luck to you.

Many of my friends are juicers, as well as smoothies.....and I have wanted to do it for years....I'm not afraid of the calories or carbs, because I do not diet

that way anymore.....and never will again......

What I am concerned about is Protein...I look for Protein in everything I eat, since I eat so little with this new life....

I have discovered an off the shelf drink which is vegetable juice and they have combined 30gm of carbs....I have been drinking one of those everyday....but to buy a juicing machine, not yet...but I want to....

This is a question you should be asking the nutritionist.

In all honesty juicing is not part of the program at all at least with the group I go to.

My nutritionist and surgeon would say no to juicing especially pre op. To many sugars and carbs.

Really talk to them immediately.

Thanks for all the responses. I know people who swear by juicing but I will definitely check with the nutritionist. I don't own a juicer so not anything I planned on rushing into anyway :)

Protein shots are great - the 42g grape ones are so thick you can add them to 8-12oz Water and make it a nice fruity drink. I used powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein and it's everything it's cracked up to be...just don't add it to anything hot or you'll have clumps. Mix it with cold things and then heat it up instead. Unjury chicken Soup flavored protein is also very yummy! Again, mix it cold then heat it up.

I spent a lot of time and money trying to figure out what I would do for Protein Shakes and the like, post surgery...after a month of preop and then all through post surgery...I still find nothing more pleasurable than chewing on a nice piece of turkey or fish or egg whites...and bite for bite, I don't believe that any Protein Shake is going to satisfy your Protein requirements better than real protein.....I just suggest not too stock up too heavily on protein until after your surgery and you are back to soft solids, etc. it's not too hard to meet the 100g protein recommendation post surgery......that's only 400 calories

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
