Hi everyone, My name is Cherry, a graduate student in the Nutritional Sciences Program at University of Washington. As a future dietitian, I'm interested in bariatric nutrition and renal nutrition. It is known that routine supplementation of certain Vitamins and minerals is a lifelong requirement for all bariatric surgery patients to minimize the risks of nutritional deficiencies on health. However, little research is on how patients are adherent to their supplement regimens and why they are unable to adhere to it. The research project that I'm currently working on aims to study post-operative adherence to vitamins and minerals supplementation in people who underwent bariatric surgeries. The data is to be collected via an online survey. Thanks to Alex Brecher. He gave me the permission to post my survey in the forum. If you are interested, please click the link below for the full survey: Web link of the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LCWL627 Your participation will help us get a better understanding of this topic and enable healthcare providers to develop strategies to improve patients' adherence to supplementation. Thanks for your time and any feedback. Cherry

I did if! I took the survey. :)

I try to answer the survey but I had the surgery last week, so not able to give a true answer to many of the questions.

Very interested in the results specially in regards to kidney function. I half only one kidney and I am concern on how all this Vitamins and requirements will affect my kidney.

Thank you for doing the research.

That's fine and thanks for your interest in the survey :)

If you are taking the recommended amounts of Vitamins and minerals, they would have absolutely no harm to your kidney even you only have one (the kidneys are super efficient organs!) unless you have other disease concerns. The supplementation is required because your left stomach and intestine may have difficulty absorbing micronutrients efficiently from the foods, and the recommended dosage is just enough to make up your needs. But, of course, over-consumption of certain vitamins and minerals might be toxic, and actually over-consumption of everything is potentially harmful, right? :P

So just check with your doctor and follow up with your labs regularly, there should be no worries ;)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
