What is your dream job?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently in university right now.

I plan on getting my PhD in Psychology, with specialties in Cognitive Science and Behavorial Neuroscience.

I also want to get atleast my Master's in Sociology.

Currently, my minors are Biology, History, and Philosophy.

I may also go to medical school, to get my lisence to dispense psychological medicine.

As of right now, my dream job would be Forensic Psychology.

However, I also want to have my writing published.

It's funny, just today I was sitting briefly in the garden with a friend and I was saying how much I long for reinvention yet often feel it's not happening or loo late, etc. This is one of the few friends who know about my surgery and I reminded her (and myself!) that last November I gave myself a year to just do this. This being the weight loss, the return to myself, the investment in my healthy future. That said, I know something else is ahead -- I'm a writer also and I don't want to be in the field where I currently work. I'm going to be 53, I have a wonderful life but the career aspect leaves something to be desired. I make art, too, and signed up for a five-day workshop in October. That will be quite a present to myself. I think that creating visual art will help open up new possibilities in my life. And then there's the garden. Here's to summer!

I used to write...a long time ago. Then I became a journalist for about 8 years...and never wanted to write again after that. It was good to focus my artistic energy in another direction. Maybe the same will happen for you in visual art. I am never happier than I am when I have a pencil in my hand (or stylus). Now if only I could make a living at it :D

I really wish I could work with people who have been abused and are overweight or obese, and help them get their power and self esteem back.

I like that one :)

@@nerms - you have gained my respect, what a wonderful thing you want to do!

Mine is more simple, I want to make millions by doing nothing. ;) but since that's probably not in the cards for me I'm actually quite happy with my career right now. It gives me tons of free time to do what I enjoy. Getting my education and communicating with like minded folk. I do plan to write some books and educate people on WLS and proper eating, but at this time there's no money in that. So in order to live comfortably I need a steady income and my job now more than provides that.

@Bandista again...separated at birth! I LOVE working in my garden, we recently moved in to this house and there was not a single plant/flower/shrub/TREE in the yard... I have built it out, edged/mulched/planted ... :) ... it will be at least a year before it starts looking full and plush...I love gardening...if my RA was better, I'd love to do that full time.... or anything creative...it would be nice being able to make money doing something you enjoy...

I'd love to take a workshop to learn to paint...never tried that, really...

This question has haunted me my whole life. I'm 53 and I currently like my job, but it's not a dream job. I love the answers here.

I've been thinking about writing a book after I hit goal. I was raised in an abusive family and had an abusive marriage unfortunately. I just don't know if a book is enough! I don't know if I'm willing to put myself out there, you know?

I like a few of the other who posted.....would love to photograph people, places and the beautiful architecture all over the world. It has been my dream since I was a teenager (now 49). Meeting these people and learning about their cultures is what really gets me excited! I've been lucky to have traveled to other countries already but as a visitor/vacation...not as work. Dreams are WONDERFUL and great topic by the way....thanks.

My dream job is to be recognized for my raw gift and talents and be called in as the person needed to make business truly work. My kids call me "priceline the negotiator" ha! I love what I am doing right now, even with the highs and lows that come with it. Some of the obstacles are challenging and you win some and you lose some...I happen to like that!

I am a program manager. I help companies/agencies develop training goals or business goals and align the right resources to meet their plans and look for a win-win for all involved. I am a champion for making everyone happy and pensive about getting stellar results through the work provided and the processes. I AM still looking for that one role that makes me feel like 'I have arrived' but I'm sure it's right around the corner.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
