Ate a whole 5oz cup of yogurt

Recommended Posts

So, I wasn't thinking, and just watching tv and I ended up eating 5oz of Greek yogurt pretty quickly (about5-10minutes). Nothing happened. I feel satisfied but not restricted. I'm only 5 days post op. Can y'all eat this much? I know that just because I can doesn't mean I should, I just truly wasn't paying attention. I guess I'm wondering if it's normal not to feel the restrictions as much on soft liquid foods?

Its really soft so it passes through pretty quick. Just try to be more mindful of your eating in the future. Once you start on solids absent-minded eating will become (literally) painfully apparent and you don't want that.

I was on liquids only for 18 days, so your postop diet is very different than mine. I got full on just 2 tbls of puréed food even then because I had such great restriction. But most people don't feel full until they are on solids.

I am on Day 4 and I ate about 6 oz of yogurt today too - I took me quite a bit a longer, but for about an hour afterwards I felt as if I had eaten a big meal - I had my husband walk me around the yard, it really helped - walking helps with my tummy rumbling and swallowed air pain. But - I was still surprised that I could consume the yogurt - it took about 30-40 minutes total. I do have to say that today is the first time where I feel more human again. The first 3 days (surgery day being day 0) had me feeling pretty wifty in the head, I couldn't drink anything more substantial than Water with a splash of G2, I did find that Unjury chicken broth really helped me to be able to consume some Protein because I was really worried about how little actually calories I was eating. But today is a new day and I am feeling so good that I am not too concerned about the yogurt. Day 14 is when I transition to Soft Foods.

I was told from the nurse in my doctors office that all sleeves are not the same size. Some are slightly bigger than others depending on the doctor and what they feel is appropriate for you. I too have had no problem eating a "decent" amount.

Early out your tummy is numb and you can get in more, plus they are very soft foods. Just wait, when you get to firm Protein you will see considerable restriction. What you describe is common in the first month.

I guess I didn't really think about my stomach being numb. So then does that mean I'll be able to eat a yogurt fairly quickly forever? I mean that would be a great snack and it does fill me up without killing me. Anyone know if they were able to eat one food in the beginning, does that mean they can always eat that same food with the same restriction feeling?

For the most part, yogurt goes down fairly easily. a 5 or 6 oz container is pretty easy to eat. 2.5 oz of chicken salad and a half ounce of cheese will fill me up quite quickly. The chicken is much more sold and therefore takes up more space, even when I am doing my best to chew chew chew it down. Its been almost two months since the procedure.

If someone saw me eating a container of yogurt, they would never realize I had any surgery. Seeing me portion out the chicken salad though makes you realize how small the stomach really is!

That is really helpful for me! I don't know if everyone feels the same type of "freedom" with the softer foods. I guess my point is, I never feel the restriction most describe but I have read that it won't come until later. So it makes me hopeful that these feelings will come soon enough when I start on more solid food.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
