2 months out from surgery and I cant stop eating..i know it's because I'm nervous...any words of wisdom

Recommended Posts

Im extremely nervous about the whole process....I know I'll be happy with the reward ....and I'm up for the challenge ... but I'm eating out of control and I know its due to the nervousness. I haven't started my pre-op diet and I think with this over eating I am just going to make it worse....anyone out there going thru the same thing or have any advise as to calm my nerves? I'm open to any suggestions...thank you

Interestingly, I had the same feelings until about a week before I started my liquid diet. I was eating everything in sight and then all of a sudden I got pretty Zen about the whole things and realized that I have committed to something pretty radical. I actually planned on eating a ton of food the few days before I started the pre-op diet...even went shopping. I ended up not eating any of the food I bought because I wanted to start being serious.

I would say, focus on the end-game. I used to go to food for comfort, now I am using the future and the prospects for the rest of my life to calm me. That is my comfort now.

My nutritionist called mine "Last Supper Syndrome". I was behaving as if every meal was the last I was going to eat and needed to make sure that I had some of all the foods I "loved". I actually weighed more on the day of surgery than I ever had in my life. I've been fascinated that I am not hungry and I don't miss all those foods. I wish I had understood that when I was wandering through every ethnic food in New York (and there are a lot of them). Good luck and give yourself permission to enjoy the process.

I understand your concern, but think of the end game. The weeks on the liquid will pass and be a faint memory. I was sleeved last Nov and have never looked back. It was the best thing I have ever done. Life will go back to normal just 6 months after surgery you just fill up faster and there is no binging. I am down 95 lbs so far and my loss rate has slowed but I still want another 80 lbs, so I keep working on it. I am off all meds no more CPAP machine feel better than I have in 25 years. It was so worth the effort. You are doing the right thing to listen to your doc and nutritionist and think of the future. It is waiting for you.

Start Wt 430 lbs

Current 335 lbs

Goal. 255 lbs

Well, if it wasn't a struggle you wouldn't need surgery. Focus on what other techniques you might be able to use to lesson your anxiety especially you will be inundated with anxiety post surgery as you can't use food to sedate. Therapy helps. A. Always have a plan. Don't give yourself time to entertain anxiety. Paint, clean, crochet, learn guitar...

B. Practice meditation, yoga, visualization, radical self care.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
