Hi everyone. Haven't been on here lately but I do try to read everything. Everyone seems to be having a super summer!! Yesterday we buried my mother. Not sad, she was 96 in July but her mind left years ago so we lost her 4 years ago not yesterday. A month before my sister-in-law, her 97 year old father died. Weird 2 in 30 days.

My numbers on the scale have not been great but with not eating so wonderful this week, I am down 5 pounds!! That is something positive. Maybe I can keep up my plateau of over 1 year and get out of the 190's finally. I was banded 2 years ago and the same weight for around 1 1/2 years. Lazy, tells it all. Maybe now that I have no excuse to see my mother and do things, I will get to the gym more often. I pay every month.

Everyone, enjoy this wonderful sun shine day (it is in Boston).

Love you all.

Arlene

So sorry for your loss Arlene.

Hi Friends! I have returned from my Disney Cruise...everyone should go on a Disney Cruise. It was so much fun!!!! I have no idea how I did it, and I'm not complaining, but I didn't gain a single pound on that vacation. And I had the most delicious food every night!!! I took a kayak tour on Castaway Cay and floated over nurse sharks, sting rays, and baracudas. It was awesome. I can't wait to do it all again. I've included a few pictures here.

Pirate night was such FUN! They shoot fireworks off the ship that night. Very cool experience.

You look so wonderful Di. I'm just so so so happy for you. I can remember when you started posting on this site and now look at you. What an inspiration!! And yes...it can be done. I lost a pound on my cruise. Just shows that you can still have a great time without losing control over the food. I know how fantastic you feel right now...I surely do.

The pictures are wonderful. I did a Disney Cruise about 26 years ago and it was the best. There were over 500 kids on board and you never knew it. My sons were never board. Now time for grandsons to go, just need 15k to take the family. Welcome home.

sorry about my rant earlier in the month. I refuse to let this one person ruin my happy place or take away from my success. The reality is I needed help and the band provided me with the help i need to make my work successful. Its a shame with the stigma attached to wls surgery as the say way out. Yes it limits the amount I eat but I still make the food choices and I am still at the gym 5-6 days a week. It has been a lifestyle change not a magic cure. So to that person who can't mind their business i say go bleep yourself and I'm sorry your life is so unhappy that you want to make everyone else miserable. But I won't allow you to do that to me. Yes I am private as I am on a dam website sharing my business. It is my choice who I share MY business with. Love it here yu have all inspired and motivated me and have shared my joys and defeats and thank you for that.

Hi all. Here are a couple of pics from our submarine experience excursion when we were in the Bahamas. I love looking at these pictures because this is the same girl who couldn't get off the ship two years ago because I was in so much pain and couldn't even walk the pier or navigate the tender. If I've said it once, I'll say it a million times. This band gave me my life back. Have a great day everyone.

Wow just think how much out lives have changed all of us , we are able to pay it forward to others that are or thinking about wls and we are getting out & moving, , dating & have more energy than we had in the past before our Journeys , meeting people , I am so thankful , I just went to my Doctor. on Wednesday thinking I would need a fill but we both said my band was tight enough , I asked if cortisone injections could make you gain weight & he confirmed it , so it is still up to me to get these last lbs off , I had to have the injections because I have deteriorating, degenarating discs in my back at least I am health, what a number it does on your health , when you are heavy & carry all the weight we have or had , well Everyone keep up on your journey & I am thrilled my Doc. asked for pics he saw the pic of me zip lining & wanted a before & after pic to show some of his patients , how cool , that I may be able to help someone else as many of you have helped me & others.

Happy Labor Day weekend! Happy bander with a few days off. Plan to ride my bike a bit perhaps a walk to see begonias. Just FUN STUFF

Please keep this thread going. It is very inspirational.... Especially because the "magic" from 1-2 years out is wonderful But us long term banders need each other as we travel this journey for years and years. Thanks

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
