HELP! Im 13 days post op and maybe taking in too many fluids

Recommended Posts

Morning, I'm 13 days post op I had gastric sleeve surgery on May 12th, as of yesterday I was able to finish 3 cups of Soup not at one sitting but throughout the day. I'm very concerned others I have spoken with have said they have only been able to get in a few tablespoons here or there. Please help me I'm still in the semi liquid stage and I think I may be consuming too many liquids please respond with your experience in the first few weeks of your surgery. Also, I am only down 4 lbs. I need your help desperately, I don't want to stretch my new stomach.

I am also concerned with this. I haven't had any trouble with getting my liquids and Protein. My doctor told me that there was no problem, but I'm still worried that I might be getting too much.

How many fluids are you getting in because I can have way more than 2iz every 15 mins I have not vomited not once. I'm so scared about this because others I have spoken with are a month out and are full of of a few tablespoons.

I get so much that I don't track for the whole day. But in the past hour I have drank a half of a bottle of Water, so about 8 oz, and 11 oz of a Protein Shake.< /p>

I was drinking as much as I wanted, around 3-4 days post-op...scared the heck outta me too!

Have since learned, everyone is different...some can only take in a small amount of fluids (sip, sip, sip), while others are fortunate enough to tolerate much more.

I had far more restriction when I got to the mushy stage, i.e. the more dense the food, the less intake.

I wouldn't be overly concerned, just go with what feels tolerable for you.

Good luck...you're in for one heck of a journey! :D

I was to take in AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid a day....could be Water, Crystal Light, Soup, popsicles, Powerade Zero... BUT...1 sip at a time. No gulping or chug a lugging but sipping on liquids all day long.

You're doing fine! By 4 days post op i was drinking 64oz of Water a day not counting the fluids from my 60gms of Protein products-which is the goal my Dr sets for his patients. You're not stretching your stomach and you're one of the fortunate ones that can get enough fluids/protein in the first couple weeks.

My surgeon told me that the liquids just keep flowing through your stomach helping it to heal so I've never heard you could drink too much, especially the first two weeks of liquids. I agree with onajournee.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
