Hi There!

I just ran across your post, and I was just banded on 12/19/08 by Dr. Wagner at the Outpatient Center. I was also self pay, and I guess I spent about $15,000 total, but that included everything, even a years worth of fills.

So far, I have lost almost 30 lbs, and I am feeling great. I go for my first fill on 1/29, so I will let you know how it goes.

Dr. Wagner was really great, and so far I HIGHLY recommend the surgery.

Good Luck and keep us all in the loop!

Well I was finally banded on July 9th ^_^ Doing very well.

Had my post op visit with Dr. Wagner last Wed and am down about 10lbs since surgery. Cant believe how much better I feel these days.

Welcome to the group and good luck with your up coming surgery. Who is your doctor? are you self-pay or insurance? We are all here to help you out. Have you been to any support groups? Did you have a hard time in getting approved? If you have any questions just ask.

Chris

hey again chris! It did take about 4 months to get approved which is fast compaired to most. They denied me bc my weight wasnt high enough in 2005. Then I sent some pics in and they approved me a few weeks later! ( i was like oh man i must look worst than i thought haha) I am having the surgery done in North Carolina because that is where my family is. I only live in St. Louis to go to school. I go to Logan College of Chiropractic (you may have heard of it) but Im doing all my fills and post op stuff in St. louis. Im doing it with st. peters surgical weightloss center...so far they seem awesome!

Hey everyone!

Im suprised too that there are not more people! Esp since stl is such a big city! So I have a thought and I wanted to see what kind of response I get to it.

I am currently in school to be a Dr. of Chiropractic. I work in a clinic is South County. WELL..... I was thinking I would like to start a support group. That met like once a week or every two weeks. I mentioned about the clinic bc I think they would be happy to host us there in the evenings. And we would have a doctor on staff to answer any questions. He is not to familar with band surgery but he could be there for any other questions about the body and fitness and the way our bodies respond (I would be able to do the same). I think this would be a great way for us to get together share works and dont works stories and keep eachother motivated!

I am already a part of a core excercise swiss ball class that happens there every other Wed. if anyone would be intrested in that maybe we could attach it to that class or something. Just brainstorming right now and looking for everyones feedback!

Talk to yall soon!

Hello everyone! My name is Ramona, I'm 30 and I was banded on July 24th at DePaul with Dr. Scott and things are going well.

My surgery weight was 316 and I am at 290 as of today. My (any my surgeons) goal for me is about 185 with my height(5'8)and frame. I'm 8 weeks post op and am down 26 pounds. I just had my first fill on 09/17/09. I have a 17cc band and got 2 cc's. I can't really feel the restriction yet, but I'm working hard to eat well.

I have a blog that I update daily with stories, menus and recipes. I *LOVE* to cook and try new things.

Have a great day.

Welcome Ramona!

Dr. Scott did both of my lap band surgeries. I was originally banded February 15, 2008. My band slipped a couple of months ago so I was re-banded on September 15. I'm feeling well and pretty much back to normal. I'm down about 7 lbs since surgery for a total of 93 or so lost. I see the doctor on Thursday to get my staples out. I can hardly wait. You will find that this is the best decision you can make for yourself. Make sure you go to support group. The band people meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the May Center and the whole group meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the May Center. They have many interesting topics and it helps get questions answered and a time to share experiences. I hope to see you there.

Have a great day!!

Hi Krystal,

There is a support group about 20 mins. south of you at Jefferson Regional Medical Center that meets on second tuesday of each month. There you could find many people including me to support you.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
