Any May 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Iamblessed everybody's surgeon is different. We can have puréed or cooked soft chicken, fish or Turkey. We can also have potato or sweet potato mashed and some other things at 3 weeks. I don't know about Tomato Soup. I know I can't have it because its acidic and cause reflux. You had hernia repair also, so maybe not a good idea.

Amp, you are depressing yourself. You have to get up and walk. You have to find something else to take your mind off of food. Food has literally been our lives, now you must focus on who you are without it. Food can not be your everything. YOU HAVE TO WALK. Your motivation is your health. Come on YOU CAN DO IT! we all can!!!!

I guess I am depressing myself, I don't know why though. I have been really good with my walking and staying positive but just the past few days I've felt defeated. Do you have any suggestions for soft food healthy Snacks? Do you breakup your walking throughout the day or do it all at once?

Amp, experiment with different seasonings, instead of same old thing. Go on Amazon and purchase bariatric cookbook for ideas to spice it up. Keep your head up!!

Thanks Cherrytree!

Great job!

So, is this 20 pounds since surgery, or since you started your liquid diet?

I just am not losing any weight on the liquid diet other than the initial 3-4 days from retained Water. The last 8 days or so, it has been pretty steady. Hard to believe I can not lose weight on 800 calories a day from the liquid diet... I am really hoping it will be different once I am sleeved in 2 days as this is making me have second thoughts...

I had my surgery on 5/21. I also had a hernia repair. The first night it was painful but that was from the hernia repair. Since then, things have gone well. I have no problems getting my Proteins and liquids in. I can drink fluids normally like I did before the surgery without needing to take small sips. I've been getting 90-120 grams of Protein daily. I have not had any real hunger pains but my tastes may have changed slightly. I still enjoy the Premier Protein shakes very much but today I tried a shake made from high protein milk and vanilla Unjury Protein Powder and found it much too sweet. I've been eating premier Protein Shakes, Unjury chicken broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and Greek yogurt. After 6 days, I have lost 10 pounds since the surgery. Can't wait to start puréed foods this weekend! I have absolutely no regrets about this decision!

I hate the Protein Shakes (isopure, the vanilla one) and the shakes given to me by the nutritionist! I had my surgery on the 5/21 and basically all I am having is half of a yogurt a day and some Gatorade to prevent dehydration, anyone have any tips???? Much needed! I'm down 20 lbs since I started my preop diet (5/14)

I was having the same issue. I lost 7lbs by day 8 and then nothing. Now on day 12 I finally dropped another 3lbs. It sure is easier to do when you see the weightloss. At day 10 I had a small cheat I just couldn't take it!

Ggchristian I am so jealous, lol. It's always been hard for me to get liquids in. Even with my full stomach. I'm stil drinking Water now. I started at 8 am. Lol, I can drink normally also and also had hernia repair, but I'm too full. I got in 45 grams of Protein today and 56 ounces of liquid. That's the most I've got in so far. Also sleeved on 5/21, 14lbs down. I'm am trying daily to get it all in. You are doing great!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
