Post Op Question

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op and feeling pretty good. Obviously a little weak but I'm doing my best to get in my fluids and Protein. My biggest complaint is shoulder pain from trapped gas! The pain isn't constant but boy when it starts to hurt it's almost unbearable. I've tried moist heat, gas-x, moving my arm as much as possible and still today it's really bothersome. Does anyone have any other suggestions to get over this hump? I would have figured it would have vacated the shoulder by now but apparently not. Thanks in advance!

The best way to get rid of it is to walk...

I am also doing lots of walking with no relief. I guess it's just going to take me awhile longer.

As silly as it sounds I swung my arm around all crazy (only if you don't have bad shoulders) and beat on my upper chest like Tarzan and next morning was better

Gas X strips. Some say they don't work but they helped me. Plus walking, etc. day 6 I woke up and felt human! This will all be on the rear view soon. Hang on!

I used a heating pad on my belly until all the gas was gone. That with the gas x strips got thr gas moving and out fast.

I also used heat on my back between my shoulder blades. Not sure if it helped with gas but definitely helped relax muscles and decrease overall pain.

It may not be gas, it can from the way they positioned during surgery, or from moving you off the or table. Try to get someone to massage your neck and shoulder for you a bit. Either way , gas or muscle strain, it should resolve shortly . Feel better!

I'm happy to report that most of my shoulder pain has subsided. It got worse before it got better. But my wonderful husband has been massaging it every night and applying theragesic at least twice a night and it feels much better this morning. Not gone, but better. Thank GOODNESS!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
