Hospital Stay Question

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the reason why some people can have the sleeve outpatient while others stay in the hospital for 3-5 days? Is this just a dictation by the insurance company? Or is there an alternate reason?

Surgeon's preference and/or insurance.

We had our Initial Consultation today and our Doc. requires a 2-3 day hospital stay. That kind of took me by surprise. I assumed you'd be out within 24-36 hours. Oh well. I have insurance so, it costs me the same regardless of how long I stay.

Stay, it's for the best. You won't be able to drink a lot and they will have you on IV fluids .

They told me 3-4 days but I was released after one (awful) night. I had great support at home so that helped a lot. I pretty much slept the whole first night an day I was home. Slept another 12 hours last night and finally feel like getting up and moving around today. My biggest issue was with nausea.

I was self pay, I went into surgery at 11, and was home by 6 that night (I live 2 hrs from hospital). So they didn't even keep me 12 hrs. I had a really easy recovery though. No pain, and no issues.

This eases my mind tremendously! Thank you!

My doctor requires a two night stay regardless of pay source. I'm self pay but I appreciate that.

I think it's just a case by case basis depending on your surgeon/insurance company. I am now a week post-op and was originally slated to stay just 2 days in the hospital. I had a reaction to the anesthesia and ended up with a very low heart rate. They moved me to the cardiac wing to monitor me for an additional 2 days. Strong heart, just not good with anesthesia.. my HR is now nearly back to normal. Honestly though, I can't imagine if I had come home earlier due to the pain and lack of Fluid intake. I know everybody's different so I wish you the best. :)

i'm day 4 post op and stayed 1 night in the hospital. I really wished I would have been able to stay a second night. Having the IV, pain pump, and nurses there monitoring around the clock was reassuring. The second day was the worst for me, which was the day that I had to go home.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
