Day 7 post op and still not able to drink enough

Recommended Posts

Im 6 months post op and only started hitting fluid goals at around month 5. Some days I just can't drink that much..regardless of what it is. But Decaf coffee and propel zero are my go too.

LidiBell, I was sleeved on 4/9/14 with hernia repair and lots of adhesions that dr had to deal with. Have you called dr about the problems you are having? If you are able to walk that will help with a lot of the pains.

I have walked daily somsgal. The only time I am in pain is when I am sitting up straight. I have not called the doctor yet, I wasn't sure if this was normal. Have you experienced anything like this? Discomfort in the upper abdomen or sorta like the sternum area?

  • Yes, I had a hernia repaired. I called my doctor today. They seem to think it is simply from the sleeve and all of the swelling in my abdomen. I have ate and drank more today that I have been able to thus far.

I am seven days post op today and I too am having a difficult time getting the fluids in. The interesting thing is my doctor told me that any Fluid including Protein drinks are considered Fluid. I drink about 60 oz a day; however the Protein is the hardest for me. Today I was able to start eating pureed foods so that has helped. Actually I started feeling human today. Anyone else start feeling better once they could go on the pureed diet? While I am not hungry I just know I have to eat a few times a day in order to ensure I am getting enough in me.

Remember those of you who feel you made a mistake it is too early to say that. We are all so early out that we cannot make that assumption yet.

We can do this!

Mike

I am only 2 days post op. I am only able to drink about 20 oz of Water. I add unflavored Protein to my Soup, pudding, yogurt...anything I can. That way I can possibly get 35-40 grams of protein. My doctor didn't tell me what I had to have, they just said this is a goal to shoot for. How do you get more fluids down sipping. I sip all day and only get the 20 oz. Can you drink a little more at a time in a month or two?

I was told to drink 2 oz every 15 mins. It's hard but can be done. I start before my first meal and continue the routine 45 mins after my last bite for each meal.

Today is 9 days out for me and this is the first day I have been able to drink much of anything. I have been extremely thirsty today. I actually think I was on my way to becoming dehydrated. Every day is a new day though. Thank god! Michael Reed what are you pureeing? Can you give me some examples. I think I need something other than Soup broths. I need something of substance!

I am 4 days out of surgery and am having a hard time consuming my liquids. I feel like whatever I drink it gets stuck in my chest. Right above my diaphragm. It is uncomfortable feeling and I feel like my stomach spasms whenever I take to big of drinks. I think today I have only been able to intake about 8-10 oz of Water. I have had broth and and sugar free instant Breakfast with almond milk but was only able to finish about 1/4 of the cup

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
