My Surgery Story Dr. Illan

Recommended Posts

Here is a bit about my surgery... Prior to surgery I did about 5 days of a liquid diet with a regular Protein dinner. The week before surgery I was allowed 1 Protein shake a day, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, broth and I ate Dannon light & fit yogurt. I got in the night before surgery to the hospital. I was allowed liquids until 10 pm which they really encouraged to make getting an IV easier. They came in the morning asked me to get a shower and change into hospital gown. Then then put in my IV. I first got blood work and chest x-ray, after the cardiologist reviewed those things I then got an EKG and was cleared for surgery. I met all of my team the anesthesiologist, Dr. Illan, 2 other doctors, as well as the cardiologist was all in the surgery room with me. They then came in and gave me anti-nausea meds in IV. Gave me a pill to relax under my tongue which tasted disgusting but I managed to take it.

I was then wheeled into surgery, I got on the operating table and within a minute I was asleep and awoke in my room. I had some discomfort, no pain. I was given pain meds (Toradol), antibiotics, and anti-nausea meds via IV on a schedule. I didn't have any nausea so I refused that at night the first night and felt some pain then, nothing uncontrollable that I needed to ask for additional meds. I started walking short trips in my room and stood during the night the first night because it felt better when I did so. The 1st day after surgery I walked every hour on the hour. I had no gas pains. The 2nd day I walked the halls a lot and chilled out at the hospital.

The 3rd day I was discharged from the hospital and went to get my leak test. All was well so we were off to get some broth, then went the spice market and site seeing the beaches with my coordinator, Omar all day. Word of caution the stuff you drink for the leak test tastes disgusting and it seems to kick start you needing to use the bathroom. We went to get broth and for my husband to eat and then we went to the beautiful Lucerna Hotel.

The 4th day my husband and I decided that we wanted to get some sun poolside so we stayed back from going shopping and relaxed poolside after walking around the block. We then walked around the block again after being by the pool and ate some leftovers from the day prior in our room. While in our room, I got pampered and got a facial and then Omar walked with us to the Taco stand to get some broth there.

The final day I awoke and was sad that I had to leave this beautiful country and its people. I also really missed my children and was ready to head home.

Never did I feel unsafe. I was pampered from the time I set foot off the plane and felt all of my needs were not only met but were exceeded. Dr. Illan and his staff were top notch. If I wanted for something or had a question, it was addressed immediately. There was a doctor at the nurse’s station 24 hours a day. Omar, the coordinator is nothing short of incredible. I had an excellent trip to Tijuana, Mexico and with Baja Bariatric’s.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
