Tomorrow I start my pre-op diet--no more than 30g carbs, no fewer than 70g Protein. I'll do this for three weeks, working to get into ketosis and shrink my liver (hmmm . . . where did I put those old ketostix from when I did Atkins 15 years ago?!?).

Looking forward to surgery--sort of feel like I'm at the top of the ski slope with my skis pointed down, just tottering about to commit to the downward ride :)

How is everyone preparing? Have you told your friends, family or coworkers. I have told very few people because I don't want anyone giving me added anxiety or reasons not to so it. The people I have told are supportive and that's enough for me.

You guys?

I've only told my husband, sons, one sister in law (because she's had the sleeve done) and reluctantly, my mom (who doesn't think I should do it). I will not tell my brothers, one thinks this surgery is the easy way out and I don't want to hear his b.s. I've decided not to tell friends before the surgery.

The small amount of people I told are the ones I thought would support me however I only have this group and just a few people I've told, the rest I've told aren't happy I'm doing this, I guess they don't understand, oh well I'm happy for me and I have all of my bariatric family here which is plenty and enough for me! XOXO :D

I have told just about everybody about my surgery. I am completely shameless and I think you should be too! I've also had people tell me "You're not that big." or "You don't need surgery." The truth is they don't realize how difficult life is when you're obese. I am 22 years old and I weight 250lbs. Being my size is a horrible way to live, but people that have not battled their weight throughout their entire life will never understand. I am so glad that I found this forum. All of you get what I'm going through and we can all talk freely here. It is such a wonderful feeling to have complete strangers support you.

I GOT MY SURGERY DATE FOR MAY 12TH!!!

I am so excited! My two week pre-op diet doesn't start until April 28th but I have already made the decision to start a mild diet and eat smaller portions. I'm hoping that if I start eating smaller portions now then I wont be as hungry during the pre-op diet. I purchased a food scale to measure the amount of food that I eat and I also purchased smaller plates and cups. I'm going to begin hitting the gym at least three days a week and stop munching in front of the tv. I'm also going to start chewing each bite 20-25 times and not drinking 30mins before or after a meal. My book 'The Emotional First Aid Kit: Life after bariatric surgery' has a million great suggestions for before, during, and after surgery. I recommend this book to everyone that is thinking about or preparing for a gastric surgery.

Me too!! I've told 5 of my Co workers and we talk about my surgery as if it were an exotic vacation I'm going on, lol. Every morning I have been writing how many more days I have left on a post it note and stick it to my monitor at work. We're all counting down the days. My date is May 6th and we have 27 days left. That's less than a month!

I have told more friends & coworkers than my own family. I feel like they will be judgement mental. Everyone has been supportive to my face no negativity.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
