Did anyone grow in height after WLS?

Recommended Posts

I've grown! Over the years, my height shrunk from 5' 6" down to 5' 4 1/2". After losing the weight and starting strength training and building up my core muscles, my height is back to 5' 6"! They just measured me at the doctor's office this morning. I'm so thrilled ;)

Has this happened to anyone else? I guess it's a combination of weight literally pulling you down and weak core muscles, but any insight on this phenomenom is welcome.

I have been told over and over again that I look taller. Got my hubby to measure me and nope..Same height. I think it is because I have a herniated dic. anyway I feel taller! Does that count?! ;)

I too gained my height back. Had lost 1/4 in and got it back. That's important when ur only5'2" to start with! My hubs still calls me 5'1 and 3/4. Lol

During this process I've both "lost" and "gained" height. My normal dr measures me at 5'7-1/2"......first visit at surgeon in a main area measured me at 5'6" and was adamant that everyone shrinks as they age (even though it had only been a year). Two months later at the surgeon again, they measured me in a different are at 5'8". This was pre-surgery and I had only lost 30 lbs. she did mention she has heard from others that they get different measurements at different places. They are not all calibrated really well.

At my bariatric surgeon's office they would measure me EVERY MONTH during my medically supervised weight loss. I thought this was weird, so I asked about it. Apparently, all that weight compresses your spine and can make you shorter. Sure enough, when I got my driver's license when I was 16 I was 5'6. Now I'm 5'4 1/2. It remains to be seen whether I will get my 1 1/2 inches back--I'm getting sleeved on 4/23.

Wow. I've never heard of this! Maybe when I get off the last 17 lbs I'll grow a little? Nothing so far. Still 5'5" - always have been...

Wonder why my dr never mentioned this...

Really! That's so interesting. I see my surgeon in a few weeks so I will ask about it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
