How much walking should i be doing?

Recommended Posts

I am three days post op and I walked a little less than a 1/4 mile today. Is that enough? Should I be walking more?

I'm post op day 5. I've been doing about 1/4 very slowly. Or approx 15 min walk. I think it depends on how you are healing and feeling...

You should walk as often and as far as you can. Walking is good for you. But listen to your body, you will know if you have done too much too fast.. Take care! :)

Hi, I returned home from hospital day 2 post op. From day 3 post op I walked 20 minutes (it was uncomfortable on the way back), then day 4 I walked 30 minutes (casual stroll type pace); since then I have walked 40 minutes every day (I am day 8 post op). The main reason is to reduce the risk of DVTs and move move move that gas! Just do what you can handle - your body will let you know when it is too much. The first day I walked half an hour I was sweating on the way back and starting to feel like vomiting - I think my body was saying, thanks but no thanks! Everyone is different. My friend had this op and did not have ANY pain after the operation - no shoulder tip pain, no nausea or vomiting, for me it was very different! Work yourself up I say and listen to your body.

Question about walking and gas. Even at post op day 5 would more walking move this gas out of my neck/shoulder???

That's what they say. I'm day 8 and get very little gas pain now - I just get that weird pain when I swallow where it feels like the fluids and air are trying to swap places in the oesophagus. It will get better - regular analgesia helped me too

Smashelle, for me, yes, it is discomfort, not pain. I had pain post op but none now - pain is SUBJECTIVE

Hello, My doctor told me to walk every hour for 10 mins. I couldnt walk much so I was suing a walking stick as I have arthritis and now no medicines...

But at 2 months I am much better...lost some weight and legs are better.

I am sure all of you will do well.

Walking is good but I would suggest you to not overdo it. Increase the distance and speed gradually, make sure that you don't walk too much. And don't compare yourself with other patients of your doctor, your body and its requirements are unique. Hope it helps.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
