Hungrier AFTER first fill

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Had my surgery at the end of January and my first fill a week ago: 4.5cc in a 10cc band. I've done well with everything up until now when I find myself hungrier and perhaps gaining. I have lost a total of 38 pounds since I started my supervised diet in July 2013 but now I swear I see the scale creeping up just a bit - maybe a pound or two. I know that can just be normal fluctuation but why in the world am I suddenly not satisfied with what I had been eating before? This seems to have started right after I got the fill!!

Give your recent fill sometime, it may take a few days to a couple weeks to really feel that restriction. Sometimes it would take me 2 weeks to get the feeling of good restriction.

Hi there, congratulations on your weight loss and everything else -- you are doing so well! The fill thing is weird, isn't it? Protocols vary, the way some have Fluid in the band at placement, others none, some doctors do a series of small fills, others a large one then tapering off.....hard to know how each Individual is going to react, too. I've had six small fills. It's only this latest one that put me in the zone but it hasn't been black and white, I had to let it all settle in each time and then over a few weeks determine whether I was "there." Best wishes as you continue on -- don't forget it is a slower process with less to lose, but you're on track and now it's spring. Great time to shed!

It is weird. Right after my fills I felt as though nothing happened I could still eat if I wanted to but didn't. Sure enough after a few days or so, I would eat as before and couldn't because my food got stuck. That's when you know it's working. Keep following your doctor's orders and all will be well. Congrats on what you've accomplished so far.

Thank you all for your feedback. It helps to know how it works for others. Sometimes I am so caught between thinking I'm eating too little and too much that I get overwhelmed and don't know which way is the right way to go. I am hoping I'll feel something in the next week as you suggest!

I felt nothing with my first 2 fills but managed to maintain my 12 lb post op weight loss. My 3rd fill brought on my first real feeling of restriction and satiety. Until your band is adjusted properly it's just another diet.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
