Anyone banded in April?

Recommended Posts

I start my pre op diet again for the second time around, which is kind of scary. I hope I can do as well this time.

I was having weird dreams as well when I first saw my doctor and would wake up in a panic. I think mine had more to do with he wanted me to think about getting the sleeve and when I decided I did not want that at all and I set my mind on the band they went away. I have been a little emotional as my surgery date gets closer.

I think my biggest fear right now is being put under for the surgery. For some reason this scares me so bad. I have been put under for various things 10 time in my life, but has scared me every time.

I have told a bunch of co workers and friends and all have been supportive and are excited for me. My husband also supports my decision and I have tried to explain this to my 5 year old son as best as I can.

Omg! Going under is the scariest part for me too! I was last under in the 80s andbhad a bad reaction where an overnight stay turned into a week long stay. I staryed my pre op diet today. Actually its a few days earlier than I was told but I figure it will give me some extra time to adjust.

Welcome to the group. I am nervous as well, but then I think of where I would be a year from now if I don't go through with it and I relax a bit. I do get a little more nervous as each day passes I am down to 8 days until my surgery.

I will be banned on Apr 4. My pre-op diet is 4 Protein Meal Replacement shakes a day for three weeks! One week has passed and I have stuck to it for the most part. I am getting nervous about surgery. Not because of health issue but because of the lifestyle change. I know its the right choice for me there is just no turning back.

6 days til my band date....I am nervous. I woke up last night in the middle of a panic attack. Had a dream I couldn't breathe... I've been under before, twice I think it's because I am no longer young I am feeling a sense of mortality now...

:-(

Sorry prettyandbrwn, I can understand. I was doing the same thing for a while. I think about my 5 year old son a lot and the impact on him if something goes wrong in surgery. I always feel really bad when I have to yell at him for misbehaving and not what I want him to remember. I am so emotional and tired right now from this pre op diet and I am down 10.5 pounds which encourages me to keep going. I have 4 days left and I know this has a chance to really improve my health, the way I view myself and give me more energy to be a better mom for my son.

Red... Man it's good to know that I am not alone. It's crazy, I was going to go to the er yesterday. I think I may see my PCM as for a physical. Lol

Just called and got my time for my surgery on Tuesday. Have to be there at 6:30am and surgery is at 8am. I am asking a friend to drive me to the hospital, so my husband can get our son off to school. I hope he makes it before they take me back. Made me a little nervous to know the time.

Hey ladies I am feeling too. Today is my first time doing the pre op and I am feeling really weak and emotional. I am starting to think more about life and I have even been really nervous and scared about this procedure. I have thoughts racing through my head as to what would happen if something went wrong. I met with my therapist and he shared with me that these are very normal feelings and that I need to be practicing mindful meditation to focus on my goal. He stated that I need to continue to focus on why I'm doing this and believe that it is the right decision. Trust me, you're not alone. Feels good to be in this with you all.

Hello April Banders!!

I was banded monday. All seems to be going well. I was kept overnight. I did have some gas pain but I did what everyone has said to do and tha is WALK. has helped soo much. Most of my pain is at the port location. The dr assures me its normal and will go away. Other than that I do feel pretty good. Good luck to all of you!

Good to hear that you're doing well. I don't even know where my port is located.

Yes! The worst bruise is where the port is. I dont find myself to be that hungry either and have only managed 16oz ofba Protein Shake all day so far. And have been walking as well. My stomach actually is making some growling sounds so I am going to attempt some soup! Lol. You can message me anytime to chat. Speedy recovery. :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
