Thanks for starting this thread. I am 8 days post op and really struggling to get in my Protein. I am suppose to get 70-80 a day, today I got shy of 50. I tried Isopure for the first time and wow, for me, is was nasty. I'm going to try halfing it with G2 tomorrow. I have the Unjury powders, I'll try those too. I am sooooo sick of Protein Shakes, I keep changing brands to see if that helps but not much. Good luck to us all!!

I'm feeling good 3.5 wks out but still not allowed to exercise, ride my bike, run, or do any lifting for another 2.5 weeks. I've been very careful to follow that bc although I feel healed on the outside, I know my body on the inside is still healing. What did ur dr recommend?

Yep I totally feel your pain! I think it does get easier once u can eat purées and soft foods. Yesterday I got in 72 grams!!! That's the best I've done in weeks! But then I only got in 4 cups or Water :/ it's a trade off I can't seem to do both! Water or protein.

When I was on full liquids I had no problems with Constipation or diarrhea. Now I'm totally constipated. Emailed my dr to see what to take bc I feel lousy today from it!!

Have u tried Miralax for your Constipation? Works great in my opinion. Also, I mixed Isopure with G2 today and it is actually tolerable. Also, I started purée today so I took cream of chicken Soup and diluted with Water, strained it and ate 1/2 cup with 1/4 cup fat free dry milk mixed in for Protein. Took my 2gm protein soup and made it 10gm with the dry milk. Always trying...

I am two weeks post op today and I tell you what it was and is a struggle. I took the advice of a friend and am now using the Sytrax nectar Protein drink (Choclolate and Vanilla). 23 grams of Protein, No sugar, No carbs, with milk about 180 calories total. As far as Water I used to be a chugger or gulper whatever you want to call it. Now it is strictly 4 sips each time and that is all day long. It is not an easy thing but we did not sign up for this thinking it would be easy. Keep on keeping on and you will do this and it will get easier. I think we just have to reprogram ourselves mentally to do this. Good luck!!!

Miralax in diluted no-sugar apple juice - you'll never know it was there!

I struggled to get my Protein and Water in as at 3 weeks as well - you just do the best you can. Remember, you're still recovering from major surgery.

I agree with the above post - maybe try a different Protein Drink. It's not uncommon for you to become intolerant to a particular brand after surgery. Also, try thinning it out a bit more than usual. Some become lactose intolerant after surgery - that may be something to look into. Also, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury makes an unflavored Protein supplement - you can add it anything and it doesn't change the taste. One thing that helped me get some protein in early on was Health Wise Hot chocolate (I purchased mine at www.mybariatricpantry.com). It has 15 grams of protein, so not as much as a shake, but it really did help me get my numbers up when I couldn't stand the thought of another shake.< /p>

Best of luck to you! Things will get better, I promise!

Thanks for posting this. I'm very much also struggling this week with Water and Protein shakes. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and kinda miserable with the food water circus. Where do I buy Unjury?

I have tried 3 different flavors of Isopure, but there are a total of 6-8 flavors. There is Grape Frost which I halfed w/ Grape G2, a red one that is like fruit punch that I halfed w/ Fruit Punch G2 and a yellow one (Pineapple/Orange/Banana) which I also mixed w/ fruit punch G2 ( I would have used orange or lemon/lime had I had some). I can't even tell you how much it improves the taste. The Isopure bottles are 20oz total so one bottle lasts me two days, I take 10oz of Isopure and 10oz of G2 and mix in a large water bottle and sip all day long, just keep adding ice. Hope this helps!

That is so good to know! I really appreciate your advice because I bought two cases of a secure before surgery. I had no problems drinking them before surgery but now they make me gag! So hopefully this will help get into next of Protein and drink the case that I still have left lol

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
