Marchies In April

Recommended Posts

OK I am in Lap Band HELLLL!!!!

I was banded on March 20,th. My doctor has me on softs progressing to a regular diet through the week as tolerated.

I have one thing to say...bring on the food:hungry: This is horrible my appetite is back to the way it was before surgery.

Tonight was the Passover meal, I tried to keep everything to a teaspoon. It was so hard, I am so worried.

I am going to the doctor on Thursday, do you guys think it is at all possible to get a fill 16 days out???

My pouch is not talking to me.....the dietian kept saying your pouch holds 1 ounce, thats it. I must have a grand canyon hole under that 1ounce pouch. LOL

I am eating alot of Protein and layering the pouch the way I was told. I am not sure if I am getting in enough liquids between meals though.

I have not drank with any of my meals, which is actually been easier then I thought.

Today I had tuna salad for lunch and it was the first food I've had to chew. I put egg, finely chopped pickle, and fat free mayo and enjoyed every bit of it. I have to say I really haven't been hungry like I thought I would but I can't say I've ever felt full either. I've been able to pass up some really good temptations which has surprised me. Will this not feeling full continue until I get a fill? Perhaps this thread isn't the one I should be asking that on since we're all fairly new at this game.

Me too....I had my first bite of real food today...I made myself Talapia with roasted tomatoes and garlic...yummy. I'll have to try yr tuna salad tomorrow. I was told by a friend today that I need to make my portion smaller since I had one fillet. :D

Yay. Lovin' this thread. I am getting a fill on April 11 and boy do I need it. My appetite is back and I am wanting more and more. I can get pretty much anything down. So this next week will be hard. I haven't put any weight on but didn't lose any this week either.

tammyj you rock!

Hi everyone,

had my one week appointment today - all good. Doc removed the steri strips which were still hanging in there, weighed me (down exactly 10 kg/22lbs) from when I started opitfast 3 weeks ago & gave me the all clear.....to continue liquids for another week lol!:tired I was told that if I transition a day or two earlier to mushies it's not too big a deal.

Anyhow, like Cascadian who was banded on the same day, my port site is still quite sore & my head hunger is driving me a bit mad.

Interestingly though, I haven't had real physical hunger like many of you other folks & thought it was just the band healing yada yada-but was surprised to find out today that the doc had put 3cc of Fluid in the band during the op.

I must admit that this was a pleasant surprise as it sounds like some of you poor folk are doing it tough with the hunger. My only suggestion in coping with that scenario would be maybe go back onto optiyuk so that at least you are back in ketosis and not driven mad by hunger?

I did make one decision today - I am going to enjoy a glass of wine & suck on an Easter egg on Easter Sunday lol!

Take care Marchies!

Cate

What was even better was being told yesterday by a total stranger was "My, how pretty you look today!" But the best is going to be my overall health and feeling good about myself as a whole--and living longer

LoriPA,

That's absolutelty beautiful. I am so happy to learn that everyone is in good spirits and doing well (even with some of the few obstacles).

I, for one, absolutely REFUSE to buy a scale. I wait until I go in for my appts. I had an appt with my family doctor and told him not to tell me how much I weighed. He thought it was funny and I told him that I was dead serious. I did not want to feel discouraged or TOO encouraged (I need to keep my sanity). I just want to take it day by day. My first fill is scheduled for the end of the month.

I advance to mushies tomorrow. Can't wait. Right now I only drink Atkins shakes. I can only tolerate those for the mean time. The doc gave me Matrix, but I COULD NOT tolerate it at all. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Atkins has 15g Protein. I'm shooting for something with about 20-25g.

hang in there honey... it will all be worth it....

I bought stock in sugar free popcicles and had one in my mouth practically all the time.

T

Banded on the 28th, about 1 week out now, feeling OK except for port pain.

I'm VERY hungry, gassy and constipated.

I'm supposed to do 3 more weeks of clear liquids! Argghghh.

I'm going to lose 100 pounds just from the stupid liquid diet- If I wanted to do that I wouldn't have had the surgery! *grumpy*

*sigh*

Weigh-in at the hospital last night and I am down another 2 pounds. Weight loss is slowing down now since I've moved on to soft foods, but I am still happy with the loss because I have absolutely NO restriction. I've been working out like crazy and measuring my food trying to keep the weight off. 5 more days 'til my first fill. I refuse to gain any weight back...I'm OK with maintaining, but I definitely don't want to gain. Congratulations Sophie and everyone else on your weight loss victories and non scale victories! :o

Pouch Layering- My dietian told me to layer how I eat, for the best success.

You need Protein the most, consequently it is usually the heaviest item so eat that first. Then have fruit or vegetable, if there is still not a sensation of fullness, have a little carb's.

So probably this a.m. I will have an egg, a couple spoons of applesauce, then maybe a 1/2 piece of toast.

This is just my dietians plan, please follow what you have been instructed.

Tammy, I am with you, I am so afraid of a gain...

AFRY, I sure give you credit for not going on the scale, I am an addict..LOL

Cate, What do you mean about going back into ketosis?

I just want to say that I love this group. I glanced at some postings for other months, and they are not as positive and upbeat. GO Marchies!

I drink those EAS CarbVantage shakes... I like them better than Atkins, and LC Slimfast

Calories: 110

Protien: 17

Carbs: 4

Fiber: 2

Fat: 3

Janine: Ketosis is when your body starts burning fat for fuel INSTEAD of Carbs/Sugar....... (It is a joyous place to be even though the breath that comes with it is BAD! LOL)

Congrats TammyJ!!!

I started my pre-op on Monday! Good luck on your first fill!

Thanks Tracy! Kudos to you for starting your own pre-op diet! I know your Dr. is one of the ones that don't require one. I am so happy for you! I know you are getting excited...you are getting so close now!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
