How much time to take off of work?

Recommended Posts

I will be having surgery this summer. I just started my job in December and am trying to push surgery into the summer because I will be elgible for a medical leave then. How much time did you take off of work for your bypass?

Thanks!!:)

I was told at a surgery education class that depending on your job it can be anywhere from 2-4 weeks or possibly longer if any problems arise.

I was told mandatory 4 weeks and I needed every day. My Dr would have let me stay out longer if I wanted. It was a rough week when I went back to work. I'll be 7 weeks out Friday and I just started feeling really good last week.

Some people go back within a week or two. People recover differently.

Good luck on your journey! : )

My doctor says two weeks for light duty jobs and four weeks for more physical jobs. I work in a bank so I took two weeks. I felt like I could've returned to work after one! :-)

Make sure you go out on FMLA. It offers you job protection in the event of complications that may keep you out of work longer. It also allows you to collect temporary disability.

I am for sure doing fmla. I work in central scheduling so I'm in a desk all day so I'm thinking 2 weeks will be just fine.

Depends on your job. I am a receptionist and was off 6 days. I have no Benefits from my job so that was all I had available for vacation pay. Worked out okay. Could have benefited from another week or two at home. No regrets though.

I work as a part-time tutor in a middle school, and my doctor thinks that I should be able to go back after a week. Maybe short days at first, but it will just depend on how I feel. Like someone said earlier here, everyone heals differently! I think it is important to just not rush it. You have the rest of your life to get back to work, and you want to do it as healthy as possible.

6 glorious weeks, though I could have physically returned sooner. I took the time my surgeon suggested.

My job for those six weeks was to keep hydrated, get into a Protein and Vitamin routine, walk when I could and heal...I am glad to have had that time for me.

I have a desk job and I'm taking 4 weeks off. I'm 8 days out right now and I wouldn't be happy about it, but I could probably go back to work on Monday if I had to.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
