I had my sleeve on 7/29/13, I weighed 266 when I started. my pre opdiet, which was full liquid, I lost down to 242 day of my surgery. Now at 7 mos I weigh 185, I think everyone started noticing must loss in my face I think I had lost about 30 lbs. My clothes started getting loose around 15-20 lbs. I was in a 22-24 now I wear a 16-18.I still am shocked when I go clothes shopping, where the are a full length mirror, I am always surprised at how much smaller I am.

I am down 40 and people that know about the surgery say I look like I have lost, but no one NOT in the know has mentioned it. I can not see it. Some of my clothes fit a little better, but they were all way too tight before (for lack of funds to buy bigger sizes). What made me notice and get excited was a measuring tape (forgive me if this was mentioned and I missed it). I forgot to do it on the day of my surgery - 1/20/14, but I did it on 2/1 and then on 3/1. I had lost 2" in my waist and 3" in my hips! It makes me look at things completely different!

People started commenting on my weight loss at about the 40 lbs lost mark. I lost the first 40 in about 4.5 months. Now, 11 months out, I've lost about 75 and people are acting like it just fell off overnight. Part of that is because I was still wearing the same clothes for a long time. I didn't want to keep having to buy different sizes, so I waited til I was close to my goal to start shopping.

Between 70 and 80 pounds. I lost the first 55 of my 110 loss over a year's time before surgery last August, so it was very gradual. The last 55 pounds have been within the last six months, so I think that's more noticeable. It took about 90 pounds off before I started to notice it ...... SILLY MIND OF MINE!!!!!

I noticed it physically before I noticed it visually and emotionally. My primary physician noticed it at 30 pounds, but I did not really see it until just a couple of weeks ago when I hit 50 pounds down. About three weeks ago, I had to see a specialist whom I had not seen for five months. I had been there for treatment every three months for the last three years but had to delay this visit because of my sleeve surgery so that I could lay on my belly for an injection in my back. No one in the office recognized me (including my doctor). They had to double check the paperwork and my I.D. to make sure they were treating the right patient. :D

For me, surgery starting weight was 202. I noticed after 15 lbs a slight difference. My fiancé kept commenting once I hit about 20. My family really commented when I hit 30 lbs (but hadn't seen them for a few weeks). Only 2 ladies at work have commented on the weight loss.

Again like the other poster said - it's a slippery slope for coworkers to say anything personal now a days. If they comment on your weight loss it means they recognized that you were overweight.

Others noticed something was different around 45-50 lbs lost. I kept getting asked if my I changed my hair color. ;-). Around 70 lbs, I started getting questioned if I've lost a lot of weight.

I noticed in a side-by-side comparison photo I made around 50 lbs lost.

I agree with most. It took about 50lbs. before people started noticing. Right now, the scale isn't moving much but I'm dropping sizes. I started at a 26/24 and now I'm wearing a 16. People are starting to tell me I'm looking skinny. I laugh because I'm like skinny compared to what? I guess skinny compared to what I used to be. LOL!

Keep that WLS working for you.

Most people took notice of my weightloss at around 50/60 pounds and now I'm at 70ish they seem to want to comment everyday and say that I've lost even more weight. I too don't see the difference until I take a picture and then I realize that I have lost weight. Oh let me not forget about the new wardrobe I had to purchase because finally everything was falling off of me???? so that was a clear indicator that I did lose some weight. Other than that my mind hasn't caught up with my body. I'm told it takes some time.

Size wise I haven't shifted much even after losing 80lbs. 3x. Was close fitting at my heaviest(270) but pant wise I only wore stretchy ones till I fit back into the 22s I had( at about 220). Now at 189. I still wear them. They are loose but still wearable. Kinda bums me out lol. My stomach is wear I am holding onto the weight. Sigh.

try buying a smaller size you will be surprised when it actually fits! Congrats on the loss!

I know the feeling. I hate that they act like the weight just fell off overnight. I'm like really it's because they just noticed but I've stopped explaining. It's my journey not there's.

I've noticed a few little things, I'm at 40lbs now.. My thighs look slimmer, my knees and hips feel bony. I don't feel any smaller, I think I look the same, but I started out at a 24 and I fit into an 18 yesterday. It was a tiny bit snug, but doable. I'm almost 6 weeks now. I go back to work Tuesday and I'm DREADING all the comments about my weight and why I've been out. Most people don't know I had surgery. Ironically I've had three dreams about going back to work and in each one I was disappointed no one noticed even though id be mostly happy if that's what actually happened.

You'll do great! Don't tell them if you don't want them to know. Just say you've made some changes health wise and feel that it's working for you so you're going to stick with it. Even if they don't notice right away someone will comment and ask for your advice on how they too can achieve success. You just share the basics with them on how to make healthy decisions and everything will be ok. Granted they will try to start watching what you're eating but tell them you're excercise and new habits have changed your outlook on food therefore reducing your meal intake. It works every time. Keep us posted! Wishing you the best"

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
