Ok I am 4 wks out, down 39 lbs and just now starting to eat and feel better, but I am so tired all of the time. What Vitamins are good and why can't we do gummies? I need to know what is gonna help with my lack of energy :(

Ask your dr about the Vitamins you need...you can also go to InsureNutrition.com and fill out the form to see if you qualify for free Vitamins, Protein shakes and/or scar cream. For me, I have to take D3, CoQ-10 with a Multivitamin, and of course, B-12 every morning...but everyone is different...

Good luck...

I do eat Gummy multi vits .iI is hard for me to swallow vits. I do take a B 12 shot once a month. Multivitamins in the am and evening. In addition, Iron with C.

You can go to Bariatric Advantage to order your stuff. They also have guidelines of what you should be taking after sleeve or bypass surgery. My hospital gave me my vit/ min recommendations.

Steph,

Tastes vary, so what I like may not work for you, but I take the Celebrate chewable bariatric Multivitamin (Mandarin Orange), the Bariatric Advantage Iron Chewy Bite (chocolate Raspberry Truffle), and the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Chewy Bites (chocolate or caramel).

I started with chewables because I couldn't swallow the pills, and stuck with them because I like them!

I'm not sure about the gummies, but my understanding is that most Vitamins come in various forms. So, for Iron, there's heme iron and non-heme iron. There's calcium citrate, and Calcium carbonate. The cheap Vitamins you find often use the cheap version of the vitamins, which may not be as easily absorbed, particularly by us post-ops. And, cheap vitamins may be manufactured in places that aren't as stringent about quality control, so you may or may not be getting what the label says you are. Maybe I'm a goof for believing it, but I do believe there's value in taking a good quality bariatric-formulation Vitamin, even if I have to go out of my way to buy them.

I also take additional Vitamin D, B12 (sublingual), and a probiotic.

Thank you all for responding. I have tried the Centrum chewables but gag! I was just wondering what everyone else is doing, I am also still struggling with my Protein intake. It's been a rough 4 weeks (hospitalized twice since surgery), but I feel myself getting better everyday :)

I like the Trader Joe's High Potency chewable Multi's. The bariatric formulations, ironically enough, have too many calories and carbs for me to be comfortable taking them. I tried adding them up one time and it would cost me something like 60 calories and 12 carbs to get my Vitamins, Calcium, and Iron from bariatric formulations. Instead I use Trader Joe's, Citracal Petites, and for iron, whatever is on sale at CVS or the grocery store. This gets my needs met for 10 calories and 2 carbs . . . and about a fifth of the price of the special bariatric stuff! Yes, I am cheap with my dollars, calories, and carbs. I get my labs drawn regularly and my Vitamin and mineral levels have always been excellent.

Are you able to swallow to Citracal petites? I bought them and they were bigger than I expected. I'm a year and 1/2 out and wasn't sure.

I do one Petite at a time and am careful with how I swallow it, but so far I haven't had any problems.

I may have to try it. They are much cheaper than the Bariatric chews.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
