New Jersey Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm in Bergen County and I just received approval from insurance today...Yeah! My sleeve surgery is scheduled for September 16th at HUMC by Dr. Doug Ewing from Advanced Laparoscopic in Paramus. He sleeved two of my clients in the past year and they were very happy with the whole set up so I decided to finally take the plunge.

I'm still not nervous about the actual surgery but I'm stressing about the recovery time. I hate to be away from work for so long and I am hoping that 2 weeks will surfice.

I live alone in my own house but I have a ton of support from my friends and clients. Still, it's really nice to have a support group to turn to during moments of complete panic! It's good to have people who can tell you that it's just gas...not certain death!

I'm pretty excited and ready to get this started!

I am Bergen County. Getting my sleeve with Dr. Gritsus at Valley Hospital on Sept. 3. I was banded Sept. 2010 and I had to have it removed May, 2014. I did very well with band losing 135 lbs. the first year then in 2012 I had to have thryroid removal surgery. The fills and unfils did me in. Could never get back into the green zone. This year we decided to have band remove and try the sleeve. I did gain about 50 lbs. Hopefully I can take that all back off, plus a few more.

I've just completed my 4th (of 6th) appt. I'm on the hunt for a WLS friendly PCP who will sign off on the medical clearance. I've done the Upper GI, EKG, lab work, psych eval etc and the results are normal. I have copies of the records. Can anyone recommend a dr who didn't give them a hard time with the clearance? I'm in South Jersey but willing to travel.

Thanks!

I used

Dr. Barbara A. Etheridge, MD

Family Practice Physician • Somerset

81 Veronica Ave #202, Somerset, NJ 08873

(732) 246-0057

I used was looking also because my pcp who at a bmi of 45 and up never realized my problem was the weight for five years I've looked finally my insurance recommended this doctor based on her reviews and the connection with hospitals I use she did a medical history in 15 minutes better than anyone I've ever had I though if use her only for surgery clearance and follow up but after being there once I'm sticking with her for good. I also loved the staff everyone is super friendly and not fake they tell you like it is they don't sugar coat stuff for you. I hope this helps.

She is in central jersey I hope it's not a bad drive

Dr. Strom is sleeving me on Sept. 24 at Mountainside. I am expectantly nervous, just looking for some insight on hospital stay, how are you doing, etc.

I stayed one night in the hospital. It was a good experience. I have been home since 9/4 evening. So far it's not bad. Having gas pain. I take medication at night. Just trying to get my Protein and liquids in. Which I am finding very hard. Everyday I am drinking more and more. I go to Dr. tomorrow. I am supposed to start puréed foods on Friday for two weeks. Hopefully my energy will come back soon.

Hey Everyone!! Sooo I'm excited that there are a lot of patients of Dr. Strom on here! I originally had the band in 2010 on Long Island. (Originally from there.) After my wedding I started gaining weight. Someone made a comment to me that made me realize maybe I should find a Dr. out here in Jersey. Dr. Strom was highly recommended. Went to see him and turns out my band went onto my esophagus. Ended up having the band removed and on Sept 3rd had the sleeve done.

At first my experience was Horrible.. I had a terrible reaction to the anastesia( can't spell) and the morphine so for the first two days I was constantly gagging. (Not fun) After staying an extra day in the hospital I was finally able to go home and relax on my own couch. Thank goodness my roommate in the hospital was so nice with all my hacking!

I am not 3 weeks out and 20 lbs down. I am still getting pains from the incisions but I read that is normal. I am also still getting nauseous but I also read that for the first few months that is normal. Thank goodness it comes and goes.

For the first time on Friday I also experienced heartburn. That was NOT fun. I am hoping that by finding this group I will be able to ask questions if I have any inbetween support group times.

Looking forward to talking to everyone :)

Hey Andy! If you are in 4 East they are amazing. Every time I had an issue they were there right away. Candice and Jolly (?) were amazing nurses but of course everyone was great. Just try to walk as much as possible and try to drink as much as possible!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
